Duringmanufacturingmostpinballmachineshadsomeextra"gadgets"who,attheend,
becauseofproductioncosts,whereomitted.Ifthereisonemachineonwichalotwas,afther
someprototypes,leftoff,wellitisScaredStiff.
Thelistofthingsthatwherenolongeronthemachineis,no"glowinthedark"bones,no
boneyflippers,nodancingboogiemen,noeyeballshooter,nolongerlighthingeyesonthe
deadheadpile,andnokickbackattheleftoutlane.Allthese"gadgets"areavailableonthe
WWWatdifferentsitesexceptthekickbackfeature.Themainreasonisthatthesoftwareto
commandthekickbackislost,severalpinballfansdidlookforitbutneverfounditanywhere.
Alsothereasonwhythekickbackwasnotinstalledisthattherewherenomoresolenoid
transistorsontheboardavailable!Insteadaworkaroundsolutionwasadaptedusingthesoft
ware.Whenthelampattheleftoutlane(SPELL)ison,andtheballdrainsthatway,anewball
isservedandshotintotheplayfieldbytheautoplunger.Theconsquenceofthatisbyre
installingthekickbacktherewillbeatwoballmultiballifthekickbackisworking.Theball
thatdrainswillbebroughtbackontheplayfieldbythekickback,andatthesametimeanew
ballislaunchedontheplayfieldbytheautoshooter.
Ifoundtheextratwoballmultiballanicefeature,andworkedoutasolutiontoreinstallthe
kickbackonmyScaredStiff.
Itisnottodifficultandtheaveragehandymancancertainlyrealisethismod.

Thefirstthingweneedisthekickbackcoilfromanoldmachineoranewone..

Theoneiusedwasandoldone,withburnedcoil.Ofcoursethecoilwasreplaced!
Aseconddifficulty!Theoutlaneisnotatallsuitedtoguideaballbackintothepalyfield.Posts
attheentranceoftheoutlanepreventthataballiskickedback.Weneedtochangesomethings
here,tocreateasmootlanethatissuitedtobringtheballbackontheplayfield.Therearethree
postsattheentranceoftheoutlane,weremovetwoofthesethefirstisamovablepostthe

rubbersleeve..Aftherthatweinstallasmallflexibleplastikstripgoingfromthekickbackto
thepostwithrubbersleeveremoved.Somephoto'swillclearthatout.

Thesearethetwopoststhatwhereremovedthesleevecomesfromthepostnexttothetargets.
Nextphotoistheplastikstripusedtocreateasmootwayoutoftheoutlane.

Dimensionsare1,1inchhightand9inchlong.Asmalamountoftherightcorneriscutted
away,itfitsnicelyinthepostthathashisrubberremoved(seephotos)

installadiodeonthecoil,ifnotthetransistorwillgobad.The+arrivingatthecoilisconnected
atthe+leadofaslingshotcoil.(thesideoftheslingshotthathastwowires).Theseconditemon
thesmallboardisa5voltrelay.UseasmallTTLrelayofanybrand,youwillfindtheseat
everyelectronicshop.Contactshavetohandleonlyafewmilliamps.Thisrelayisconnectedat
the"SPELL"lampsituatedattheleftoutlane.Connectthetwowiresasshowedinthedrawing
,oneatthenonbandedsideofthediodeatthe"spell"lampandoneattheotherconnectionat
thelampsocket.Theresultis,whenthe"spell"lampis"on"therelayisactivated.parallelon
therelaycoilisaelectroniccondensatorandthecommandpassestroughtadiode.Thisis
becausethe"spell"lampisinthelampmatrixandwhen"on"isnotfedwithacontinousDC
voltagebutbyatrainofpulses(givingustheimpressionitscontinously"on")Tohaveasteady
closedrelay,weaddedthecondensatorandthediode.Whentherelayisclosed,(SPELL"on")
thetransistorcanreceive+5athisbase,andthecoilwillfire,thishappensonlywhentheball
willpassonarunoverswitchintheoutlane.
