Vancity continuously places value on its employees and serves them to
maximize productivity from all members by providing them with an amazing
workplace environment to work in. Furthermore, Vancitys preference in
engaging with its employees, placing importance on their feedback(e.g.
having employees complete surveys, and forming discussion groups to
implement solutions to problems identified) and allowing them to assist in
making important decisions regarding the future of the organization (e.g.
corporate policies) establishes not only a strong employee and organization
relationship, but also a sense of belonging, responsibility and importance,
and provides them with an advantage compared organizations that employ
the traditional system of command and control .Vancitys proven track
record in committed excellence through their vision of honesty,
responsibility, and innovation in providing service to the environment and
the community is at the heart of its social values. It understands the impact
that work can have on employees and their personal lives and focuses on
creating a comfortable work environment as possible. It does this by allowing
them to listen to music while working, providing a benefit program that
includes dental and life insurance, allowing them to create a flexible
schedule to balance their work life and private life by providing a diverse
range of work options(e.g. telecommuting), and allowing maternity and
paternity leave. Vancitys innovative advances (e.g. first to provide financial
service and market to minority groups that included women, and the gay

lesbian community) and continued progress allows it to serve an increasing
population. Furthermore, Vancitys local decision making system provides it
an advantage over big banks since they are familiar with their members and
location. Vancitys green building projects minimize costs while resource
usage is efficient. Vancity is effective and efficient since it tries to minimize
resource waste by being environmental friendly, and achieves its goals in the
process, thus leading to higher productivity.
Vancitys stakeholders include: employees, members, programs that Vancity
interacts with (e.g. Shared Success), its competitors (Banks), and future
generations. Vancity creates value for its employees by providing them with
a great work place environment (e.g., music, flexible schedule, etc.), placing
importance on their well being, and offering excellent pay and a great
benefits program. It also includes a gender diverse board of directors, with
majority being women, including the chair, thereby also in the process
creating value for women in top positions. It creates value for its members
by lending them the money the bank refused to, and providing them a grant
from the total yearly profit through Shared Success. Furthermore, it was also
the first financial institution to include women, and the gay and lesbian
community, and the first to join an organization that placed values on
banking. Its acceptance of socially marginalized groups creates value of
these groups. Vancity creates values for the programs that it interacts with
by providing them with yearly grants that are geared towards community

and environmental improvement. Some of these programs assist in job
employment and financial literacy skills. Vancity creates value for its possible
future generations by providing excellent service and commitment to its
employees and members to attract possible future members or employees.
Banks are valuable to Vancity because they are not willing to lend money to
everybody, and this in result increases the members of Vancity
