addition questions
Students can provide the answers to the related
doubles subtraction questions
Doubles Circles
In their math books, students will take a number circle
and mark an x where the hole is
Students will use the numbers on the circle and write
an addition sentence of the double of that number
o E.g. if students are looking at the number 2,
they would write 2+2 = 4
Students work around the circle completing their
doubles
When they are finished, they lift up the circle, write
the word doubles in the center circle
Product:
Students can provide the correct doubles sentence
The answer to the students double is correct

Look for students who are struggling and provide
addition support through manipulatives
Doubles/ Near Doubles with Playing Cards
Once students finish their doubles circle, they will be
given two sets of two cards (either doubles or near
doubles)
In their math books, below their doubles circle,
students will write out the addition sentences their
cards create and then the answer
Students will then receive two more cards and repeat
the process
Product:
Students can answer either a doubles or a near
doubles question

doubles numbers, will be given near doubles to
attempt
Closure
Before students can leave for recess, they will flip over a card
and provide the answer to a doubles addition using that card
E.g. if they flip over a 5 card, they should come up
with the answer 10
Next lesson, we will be reviewing doubles and looking again at
near doubles
