Has anyone ever written a letter to Santa before
with maybe their moms or dads?

But before we can start writing a letter to him, we
need to know how to write a letter because there are
certain steps that we need to take

Procedures/Activities
1. Go over format and sections of a letter and
everything we need to include
I will have the layout of a letter already
drawn on the chart paper to follow this is a
good visual for the students
Return address top right corner with
three lines
A return address is where we put where we
live
Why do you think we would need a return
address on a letter? Why is it important to
have a return address?
Everyone has a return address and I will
give you a little slip of paper with your
address on it show them what one will
look like
Exactly how your address is shown on this
paper is how you are going to write it on the
letter!
I will show them an example of how you
would write the address
The date skip a line
Why do you think it is important to put the
date on the letter?
The Greeting
What is a greeting? What are some ways
that you could greet someone?
For a greeting in a letter, we dont write hi
or hello. Does anyone know what we use
instead?
The Body the main part of the letter with
all the information
If we are writing a letter to Santa, what
kinds of things would we want to say to
him?
There are 3 things that we want to include in
the body: a friendly question, what we would
like for Christmas, thank you
What would be an example of a friendly
question? How are you? How have you
been? How are the elves? How is Mrs.
Clause? How are the reindeer?
The closing
What is a closing? Instead of saying bye or
see you later, in letters we may say yours
truly or sincerely.
