Draft 2: The plagiarism in Vasos de Papel
During the last few weeks there has been a
conversation, mostly in the social medias platforms
and media, about the plagiarism in Vasos de Papel
by Eduardo Transfor Ortiz. I have to admit that I
havent seen neither movies; but Ive been reading
the news and following the dialogues about this topic.
First of all, plagiarism is not right and should be
condemned every time. This is not an option. Doing
plagiarism demonstrate a lack of professionalism and
creativity, it damage your reputation and the
reputation of the people who worked with the project.
According to the webpage Bowdoin, there are some common types of plagiarism
(just as a reminder as well to inform):

Direct Plagiarism- is the word-for-word transcription of a section of someone

elses work, without attribution and without quotation marks.

Self-Plagiarism- occurs when a student submits his or her own previous work,
or mixes parts of previous works, without permission from all professors

involved.
Mosaic Plagiarism- occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source
without using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the authors language
while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original.

Accidental Plagiarism- occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or

misquotes their sources, or unintentionally paraphrases a source by using
similar words, groups of words, and/or sentence structure without attribution.
In this case, the whole story line and structure
of the movie was copied and updated. It is
important to highlight this report because a lot of
people in social media were saying that this topic is
not important. One of the reason to say that is
because Secret Admirer (1985), is an old unpopular
movie in Puerto Rico, for example. If you copy El
Quijote, that was written in 1606, it should have
been treated with the same importance and
condemn it with the same enthusiasm.
One thing is to demonstrate the influence of another artists and pieces of arts

in your work, another is to copy them. There is a huge difference between that and
it should be established and clear. I'm glad that the actors and other employees
condemned it and refused to be part of this problem. They talked and said that they
didnt know about this and that they wont be part of any further activities and
promotions about the movie. They all demonstrated professionalism and demanded
an explanation of what was going on.
In moments where the internet and other tools are so accessible to investigate,
we should be cautions and respectful about other people's works. I applauded how
the people who worked for the project reacted and condemned it. It was also a
good way to start the dialogue about plagiarism; commonly ignored.
