Term 3
Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are now starting the last
trimester and the final report
card season of the year. There
are still many outcomes to cover,
but we are moving along well.

Important Dates:
April 1st - Report Cards
go home
April 7th(PM) - Parent/
Teacher Interviews
April 8th - No School
(Parent/Teacher Interviews AM, PL PM)

As previously mentioned in other newsletters, I would really

appreciate your help as parents
to continue to have a look in
your childs agenda on a daily
basis as I find this to be the easiest way to communicate with
you to let you know about late
assignments or other little issues
that arise. I will continue to write
the weekly homework assignments on my homework website
(http://
mmethebeau.weebly.com).

1 S T ,

The students have been using

this site to create an assignment
Proud to be Canadian, which is
due on Friday, April 1st.
It has been a school goal to have
students complete their own
reading log to help students with
monitoring their progress as
readers. We will be having
guests in our class this coming
term: One to talk about poetry;
and the second a published author.
The final term will continue work
on ELA terms and rules; district
assessments in both reading and
writing, as well as some writing
in a journalism style.

April 18th & 19th - No

Math

School (Professional
Learning Days)

In this last part of the year, the

focus is set on making sure students will be ready to enter
grade 7 Immersion. They really
need to use the vocabulary
learned throughout the year and
not resort to always asking how
to say frequently used words in
French.

Students are finishing to use

different methods of collecting
data. Next, they will review
what they have learned about
fractions in the previous grades.
Then, they will learn how to relate improper fractions to mixed
numbers.

June 24thLast Day for
Students
**At the beginning of
June, your child will be
writing a provincial assessment which will be testing
their skills in French, English, Math and Science.

Students are currently working

on reading fluency through
Readers Theatre. Next, we will
discuss, read and write about
Fascinating Places.

English Language Arts

In ELA, we are continuing to
focus on the three major outcomes which are reading, writing and speaking. If you remember, students were required to
read the number of books equal
to the grade they are in. As well,
each student should have posted
3-6 Book Talks to the class, briefly
outlining the plot, main character, setting, genre and their personal evaluation on a scale of
five stars (five being a great book
and 1, not good) on the class
webpage on www.kidblog.org.

After that, they will learn to identify, classify, estimate and find the
measure of angles, as well as
draw and label angles. Then,
they will represent and describe
patterns and relationships using
graphs and tables. We will follow
this by exploring equations with
letter variables.
Finally, students will work within
the Shapes and Space strand to
construct and compare different
triangles, as well as describe and
compare the sides and angles of
regular and irregular polygons.

Social Studies
We are currently finishing a unit
on the use of resources and sustainability practices in Canada
and around the world. Next,
begin to learn about culture in

2 0 1 6

the Middle East, more specifically

about religion. Then, we will
explore parts of African culture
such as sports and games, music
and art.

Science
Students will explore the concept of flight. In this unit they
will explore how lift, thrust, gravity and drag affect flying objects.
They will be able to explain the
mechanisms that allow birds
and insects to fly. Finally, they
will take part in various experiences to discover Bernoulli's
Principle.

Health
As you know from the letter sent
home at the beginning of
March, we have begun the
Growth and Development part
of the curriculum (previously
called Sexual Education). This
part of Health class will be
taught in English so that the kids
clearly understand and feel comfortable to use the correct language and speak to you about it
if they have questions. The focus will be on the changes that
happen during puberty for both
girls and boys. If you have any
questions about what is being
taught you can contact me at
any point. I encourage you to
discuss at home what is being

taught and to question your

child on what they are learning.
**If ever you have any ques-

tions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me of the other

teachers at school (538-2121).
