Dodge City High School has a desire to be as technology rich and

friendly as possible. Many changes have evolved the last several years
and many more to come. With the high school implementing a one to
one student to iPad ratio, it is time to revaluate the technology in the
classroom. This report will look specifically at the classroom of, me,
Kimberly McWilliams. The technology will be requested in 5-year
increments. Each year of the plan will introduce a new piece of
technology, software, or upgrade. All of the items requested will help
support objectives, standards, and mastery objectives set by Next
Generation Science Standard (NGSS), USD 443, and Dodge City High
School. All of the additions to the classroom will help support inquiry
and student centered learning.

School Mission and Goals

The mission of Dodge City High School is to prepare students to be

capable, contributing participants in a changing world.
3.1

Mission

The mission of this technology plan is to help update technology in the

classroom to help prepare students for technology use at a collegiate
level and/ or real world applications
3.2

Goals

Improve teaching through appropriate use and implementation of

technology.
The goal of this technology plan is to incorporate technology that will
help students achieve standards and deepen learning in alignment
with NGSS.
Students will utilize and demonstrate effective uses in technologies
that help students to analyze and synthesize information.
Revamping the technology in the classroom will help achieve these
goals and help enrich the students learning.

This computer will be used for classroom instruction with

Keynote, Internet, iMovie, and a variety of classroom
apps. The computer will allow the me, the teacher, to
produce better quality materials for students use. The
materials will make for a better experience for student
learning. This laptop will also be connected to the EPSON
projector and Smartboard. Communication will be greater
with the iPad when compared to the old HP laptop.
Documents will simultaneously be transferred with greater
ease.
This is necessary to print student applications,
administrative purposes and for classroom assignments.
Retention and understanding would be deeper if notes
could be presented in color. More specific notes and sub
categories can be listed with more distinction.
The ELMO will help model chemistry problems,
specifically balancing equations and mole conversions.
Worksheets can be shown in real time with me working
the problem. Images and figures can be saved for later
use, which allows students to have greater recall. For
demonstrations, items can be zoomed allowing for more
direct instruction and examples. I will also demonstrate
using a calculator with more fluidity and less confusion.
One ELMO will be used in the classroom and one ELMO
will be in the lab. This way demonstrations and examples
can be shown in either space.

A Smartboard can help enhance demonstrations and

help address different learning styles. It allows
interaction between content material and students. The
teacher will also be able to walk around room and more
closely monitor student work, since it is not necessary
to stay next to the laptop. Materials and notes taken
can be saved and easily distributed amongst students.
Students may physically interact with material further
more by letting them manipulate and analyze
information for themselves.
Dreamweaver will be an essential tool for the
classroom. This program is what will help run and
mcwillychemistry.com. Class assignments and projects
will be assigned here. It will allow me to showcase
student talent and assignments. Parents will visit this
page to stay up to date on class proceedings. The
website will also help allow for differentiation of
instruction to fit students needs. Extra resources,
practice materials, and notes can be found here.
These new labquests have built in data collectors that
can build graphs and then analyze data. These are
wireless, which allows for collaboration and sharing
data easily. It is very user friendly and can be adapted
for all skill levels. For the more advanced students it
coincides well with inquiry based learning. This
updated version of the labquest allows students more
time to collect and evaluate rather than wasting time
setting up and converting information.

Description

The laptops will allow students to take more efficient

notes, search for information, and help facilitate group
activities. Although the students have iPads typing paper
and searching for information will be more effecgive with
the Air. Students will be able to work on assignments
simultaneously in groups utilizing Google Drive. Lab
reports, data, tables, and graphs will be made here as well
during inquiry-based labs. With the Air and iPad students
can work simultaneously on collecting data and writing lab
reports.

Animoto is a Web 2.0 tool that allows teachers and

students to make videos. This subscription allows one to
make videos up to 10 minutes long. Students will make
videos at the end of each unit. It is adaptable for each
level of learner. It is interactive and engages students.
When creating videos it will be student centered. Putting
the ownership of learning on the students. Students will
also be working collaboratively. At the end of the semester
students will watch videos to help review for the semester
final.
All Vernier probes will help to aid in inquiry-based labs.
Students will be given the tools (probes) and instructions
needed to complete the assignment. Minimal help from
the teacher will be given. These will help students practice
skills and tools necessary for collegiate level. The probes
will work with the new lab quests on the laptop or the
iPads. The data received from the probes is also
instantaneous and students will see effects/ reactions
happening in real time. This specifically helps them visual
content and retain content.

Budget

Currently the budget is unknown. This is the first stage of technology plan. As more edits and input are
received a more definitive budget will be set. In the mean time the plan is to pull money multiple
resources. The department is up for textbook renewal in two years. Instead of buying these texts, new
laptops will be purchased at this time. Money will also be pulled from Career in Technical Education
(CTE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) funds. Any extra money needed will come from grants
and donations.
