The Heart of the Message Presented by Amy Hall-McLaughlin, NAD V & Pam Warkentin, CSC, SC:L, NAD V May 1, 2010, 9 am—4 pm Have you ever completed an Registration opens 8:30 am assignment and wondered “What was missing?” Effective interpreting requires much more than an exchange of signed and spoken vocabulary! This workshop will address achieving message equivalence and what gives an interpreted message life or meaning. We will explore the various aspects which impact effective interpretations through discussion and various activities.

Amy Hall-McLaughlin was born and raised in Milton,
Ontario, Canada. She moved to Fresno in 2001 where she attended California State University, Fresno and received her Bachelors Degree in Linguistics. This allowed Amy to delve into and discover her passion for the socio-linguistic features of ASL She currently holds NAD V certification and has been interpreting professionally for about 10 years. Angela Funke Koetz is an approved RID CMP sponsor for Continuing Education Activities. Pam Warkentin is a California native, born and raised in the Bay area but has been in the Fresno area since 1982. She has This Professional Studies program is offered for up to 0.6 CEUs at the ‘Some’ Content been interpreting professionally for 36 years. She currently Knowledge Level. holds CSC and SC:L certifications in addition to NAD V. She is passionate about doing her best and serving the deaf community in her work. Both Pam and Amy are children of Deaf adults and were Central fortunate enough to have ASL as their first language. California Registry of Interpreters for *This workshop will be held in English.
