Task 4: Mathematics Learning Segment Overview

Learning Segment Overview Directions: Briefly describe the instruction preceding the assessment by typing within the
brackets in each section of the chart below (no more than 2 single-spaced pages). Do not delete or alter the chart; both the
chart and your description are included in the total page count allowed. Refer to the evidence chart in the handbook to ensure
that this document complies with all format specifications. Pages exceeding the maximum will not be scored.

Central Focus:

State-Adopted Content Standards

[ The central Focus is to be able

to recognize and draw three and
two dimensional shapes. ]

[MGSE2.G.1 Recognize and draw shapes

having specified attributes, such as a given
number of angles or a given number of equal
faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals,
pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.]

Learning
Objectives
Lesson 1

Lesson 2

[I can recognize
shapes that have
described
characteristics
(angles, faces)]

[I can draw shapes

that have described
characteristics
(angles, faces).]

Instructional Strategies and

Learning Tasks

Formative and
Summative
Assessments

[ We will begin by creating

anchor chats that show the
different three dimensional
shapes and their angles and
faces. Next we will sort objects
based on their angles and
faces. The learning tasks for
are a Glyph where they use
information about themselves
to create shapes to put
together, question about
shapes on Tenmarks, a who
am I game where they guess
what the shape is based on
clues, and a sorting game
where they sort by sides and
shapes. ]
[We will label faces, edges and
vertices of draw objects. Then
students will be creating a chart
that includes rectangular prism
and cube that have faces,
edges, and vertices and the
shapes that make it. The
learning tasks for are a Glyph
where they use information
about themselves to create
shapes to put together,
question about shapes on
Tenmarks, a who am I game
where they guess what the
shape is based on clues, and a
sorting game where they sort
by sides and shapes.

[Students will complete

pages 412 and 412. This
has them circle the
objects that matches the
shapes name. Students
will be formatively
assessed on how they
complete the learning
tasks. ]

[ Students will turn in

their charts. Students
will be formatively
assessed on how they
complete the learning
tasks.]

Task 4: Mathematics Learning Segment Overview

Lesson 3

[I can identify
triangles,
quadrilaterals,
pentagons, hexagons,
and cubes.]

Lesson 4
(Optional) [I know how label

angles.]

Lesson 5
(Optional)

[ We will create an anchor chart

that explains quadrilateral,
pentagon, hexagon and
triangle. The learning tasks for
are a Glyph where they use
information about themselves
to create shapes to put
together, question about
shapes on Tenmarks, a who
am I game where they guess
what the shape is based on
clues, and a sorting game
where they sort by sides and
shapes.
[ We will talk about what an
angle is and how it is important
in labeling shapes. We then will
talk about what else is
important to name a shape.

[ Students will create

their own quadrilateral,
pentagon, hexagon, and
