Description:

Design and create a logo for www.FamilyGameTime.com

using Adobe Illustrator.

Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130/S Tranberg

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Illustrator

Process:

The logo I created was for a website I have created

where my family reviews board games. The first step in
designing this logo was to decide what message I wanted
the logo to convey. I wanted the logo to express a sense
of family and games. I then created three sketches on
paper. Those sketches became the guide and inspiration
for three logos created in Adobe Illustrator. I chose and
applied a different color scheme for each design. The
three logos were then presented to classmates and
fellow Web Design and Development majors. Each
person chose the logo they preferred and I also received
feedback on how to improve the design that everyone
unanimously preferred. The feedback and critiques
guided me in refining the design to what I have now as
the top logo pictured above. To complete the logo design
I converted the logo to gray-scale
and white on color background.

in Notepad++ and Netbeans for designing web pages and
chose to use Notepad++ due to the simplicity of this page.

Process:

The logo and the different variations of it were created

in Adobe Illustrator. The paintbrush handle was the most
creative piece to create. It took creating multiple shapes,
adding them together and then using other shapes to
subtract areas from it. Once my logo was created, I
moved to Adobe InDesign to create the letterhead and
business card. In order to help control file sizes I made sure
that all of the Illustrator and InDesign files were located
within the same folder. That made it possible for me to
utilize the link feature in InDesign.

Process:

The first step in this process was deciding what I wanted

to create. I decided to make a real estate brochure after
looking at a flier that was sent to me by a friend. The next
step was creating a business name and logo. I created the
key logo in Adobe Illustrator. Within Illustrator I also created
the for sale and sold lawn signs. I then began laying out
my brochure design in Adobe InDesign. I also searched the
internet for free stock images to use for my project. I began
with a very creative folding scheme that I loved. I created
a draft with that and filler text.I then wrote my body copy.
As I began to place the body copy into my design I realized
there was not enough room for my copy with the current
layout. I then had to scrap my layout and rethink it all. I
was then able to come up with the layout I have now. I used
Adobe Photoshop to crop images into circles for the layout.

Process:

My process began with formulating a message and

creating sketches. I then took to taking pictures to fit my
message. I took multiple pictures to fit different sketches.
Once the glowsticks began to die it was time to stop
taking pictures and move on to editing my pictures.
I used Adobe Photoshop CC to edit my pictures and
create the full-page layout. The image determined my
monochromatic color scheme. I used that color theme
and repeating elements to create a unified whole.

Description:

Create a layout using multiple images together. The

layout should contain a spiritual message and theme.

Program(s)/Tools:

Process:

The first step of this design was deciding on a quote to

use for my spiritual theme. Once I had my quote I started
drawing out different ideas for layouts and deciding
on what type of images I wanted to use. Once I had
a message and layout plan, I went looking over the
internet for free images that fit my ideas. When I found
these images I knew they were what I wanted. The next
step was working in Photoshop to make my idea come
together. It took a few tries using the mask layer to get
the images to blend together the way I wanted them to.
The hardest part for me was deciding on typography. I
played with a few different options and decided this final
one worked best. I then started playing around with the
different effect for the font to help the text stand out
from the background. I ended up deciding on a partial
outer glow. I purposely kept the layout simple because
I did not want extra distractions for the viewer. I think
that the two images and quote are enough to convey the
simple but powerful message I had planned.

Process:

I began with the event details and built upon

that. I found a picture of a beautiful plate of
spaghetti in a cook book and scanned it to
use for the image. I used the image to help
determine parts of my color scheme. I then
went onto the website www.coolors.co to find a
color to match the red and brown tones I pulled
from my image. I cropped the top right and
bottom left edges from my image in Photoshop
Elements. The rest of the design was done in
Microsoft Word.
