Objectives

Learn how to set up and print a duplex color document with a

new, original logo.
Use at least four quality images excluding the logo. One should
be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign.
Trim for a full bleed and write 250 words of original copy.

Process

I began my first draft in InDesign, using the pen tool in Adobe

Illustrator for the silhouettes in my logo. When I completed my
first draft I got two critiques and used the feedback to begin my
final draft.
For my final draft, I went to Illustrator to draw the two
silhouettes on the inside of the brochure using the pen tool.
I then searched for relevant images. I cut the shield from the
background in Photoshop before text-wrapping it and used
Photoshop to change the capes on the soldiers from red to
purple to fit my color scheme.

Objectives

Learn basic photography skills and printing full bleed margins.

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors.
Use Photoshop to adjust levels, saturation, color balance, and use
the sharpen tool on separate layers to prevent destructive editing.
Use layers to design text and repeat graphic elements.

Process

For this project, I first determined the color scheme (triadic gold,
purple, and blue, but omitting blue from this project) .
I took a picture using a resin statue of a knight, my roommates
shirt, and a digital camera. After taking the picture, I used
Photoshop to edit the levels, vibrancy, and hue/saturation. When I
got stuck, I looked up you-tube videos to help me.
Afterward, I sized my photo to 11x8.5 and included shapes and
text that fit my color scheme and theme.

Objectives

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve the basic flier
layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links. Create a project folder with
the image, logo, and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign

Process

I began the process by sketching design ideas. When I selected

the best design, I used Adobe InDesign o put it all together.
In InDesign, I organized pictures and body copy that had been
provided for me. After two critiques, I created the final draft. I had
to be conscious of white space and shapes more so here than in
a color project because the shapes are more prominent in a black
and white theme.

Objectives

Use basic Ilustrator and InDesign tools.

Create a new logo, design a consistent layout, and use proper
typography with small body copy. Use simple designs with light
watermarks and drop shadows and lots of white space. Include all
contact information in proper formatting.

Process

For this project I used Illustrator. I first came up with two

different design ideas for a new logo.
Next, I used Illustrator to play with color schemes. I wanted
my logo, message and theme of the company to pop and be
edgy. Afterward, I took it to InDesign to transfer the logo to my
letterhead project.

Objectives

Practice strong focal point, flow, unifying the layout, and

consistency, with a dominant spiritual message and flow.
Learn to blend quality images in Photoshop. Use masks to
apply filters to part of the image. Apply typography principles like
legibility; small copy and title with varying font sizes.

Process

I began the project by sketching ides after experimenting with

Photoshop effects.
I brought two pictures into Photoshop, flipped them, and used
layer masks to blend the girl into the beach scene. I looked for
appropriate font colors to fit my color scheme while still being
easy to read. I then took my draft and had it critiqued by my
instructor before beginning the final draft.
I was careful to maintain a large amount of negative space in
between the text and the picture of the girl to create a relaxed
and open feel to the overall design for my final copy.

Objectives

Comprehend image sizing and find, scan, and import a highquality image.
Create a full-bleed design with a color scheme and typefaces
that work with my message and audience.
Learn how to design using only Word design features.

Process

I began this ad in Microsoft Word, and after getting two critiques, I

used Microsoft Word to finish my design.
I practiced using proper color schemes as well as using shapes,
fonts and colors to communicate appropriately to my audience. I
also practiced repetition and gestalt by repeating the rectangular
shape found under the title and also at the bottom of the page
which helped to unify the overall design of the ad. Finally I printed
the project and trimmed the white border off for a full-bleed
effect.

Objectives

Create three logos for a company you created.

Do a survey to determine the best design.
Use only Illustrator and refine one logo with variations for color.

Process

I began this project by sketching out possible design ideas. When

I chose my final logo design after gathering votes, I refined it in
Illustrator.
I adjusted the anchor points in the C to make it more legible
and still look like a wave. I used bright colors to catch peoples
attention and to make it look exciting.

Objectives

Size a logo for web display. Write content to describe the design
process.
Learn how to use HTML and CSS. Identify hex colors to match
the logo using Photoshop.

Process

I first learned how to organize an HTML code with the proper tags
and the correct order to use them. I then downloaded the Text
Wrangler application and became familiar with it.
Soon I also learned CSS, and with knowledge of both HTML
and CSS I began to design my web page showcasing an earlier
design of the Curl logo. I researched interesting effects online as
well to increase my knowledge of CSS.
