Process:
I took photos from the Internet on various sources. For the brochure layout and
design I used to program InDesign. I had previously designed my logo using the
Illustrator program. I used paragraph styles to format my text and added a text
wrap on the inside of the brochure. I changed my logo to lay flat to create mini
logos to separate paragraphs. I also wanted the word love to be important so I
used text color and font from the logo and incorporated it through out the design.

Objective:
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator prefabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing.) Refine one logo with
variations for color
Process:
Basic design principles were used. The only program used for this project
was Adobe Illustrator. Inside the program I used they pen tool to create my
mountains. I used the pen tool to add and subtract anchor points when necessary
and then also to add lines when needed. I added a shadow using the pen tool
also. To make the shape I used a circle and elongated it to give it a jewel look. I
changed the stroke on the outside of the circle shape. I added my Jeeping for Joy
words to the design.
Wedding Invitations

Adobe Photoshop
Objective:
Create a wedding invitation for a client. They wanted a classic yet modern feel
to their invitation.
Process:
I used Adobe Photoshop to create the invitation. The chose a photo they wanted
and had a particular look in mind. I brought their idea to life. I used the lasso
tool to cut out the wheat figures and turned them to gray scale. I added the lines
to create individual pieces. I used different typefaces but tried to keep them in
the same family with a positive flow. The clients were very happy with the final
product and sent out all their invitations.

Programs/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objective:
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with light
watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each
piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.
Process:
First I designed my logo in Illustrator and then from there added design details to
create the business card and letterhead. I made sure that if you saw my business
card it looked like the letterhead and visa-versa. I used the triangles on the edge
of the sun on the other side of the business card to create flow.

Process:
First I designed my logo in Illustrator and then from there added design details
to create the business card and letterhead. I wanted my logo to be incorporated
on the main part of the letterhead. So I made sure to use the transparency tool
to make the writing that would go on top of the watermark to be legible. I added
smaller triangles to create a line at the top and bolded certain elements in my
contact information to create hierarchy.

Objective:
Process:
I used TextWrangler to edit my HTML and CSS files. The logo was made in
illustrator. I had to use the CSS that we were given and I added and changed some
code to make it look the way I wanted it to.
Photodesign
Description:
Demonstrate good photography and editing skills as well as designing skills using
Photoshop.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Nicole Nugent
Programs/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom.
Objective:
Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match
those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera to
take a quality image, then download it.
Process:
First I had to take the picture, I used my Cannon T3i camera and shot this specific
photo with a 50mm lens. After the photo was imported in to my computer I used
Lightroom for overview editing and Photoshop for finishing touches. From there
I used the design tools in Photoshop to create the finished product. I used the
pentagon tool and the eyedropper to grab existing colors that were in the photo
to create the color scheme that I used. I also used the textbox tool to create the
wording. Using rectangles i added color to them and placed two of the boxes
behind the pineapple to add depth. These elements are created on a different layer
and then at the end, the image was flattened to turn the layers in to one complete
product.
Flier

Course/Instructor:
Programs/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objective:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic
InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on
this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in
InDesign intact.
Process:
I started this process by drawing thought out sketches, using boxes to show where
images and wording would be placed. I then started my first draft on InDesign by
referring to my sketches as to where I had wanted things to go. Upon completion
I had two other people look at my flier and had them use a guided critiquing
process. After the critique process I realized there were a lot of things I could do
differently in order to make my flier better. I went back in to InDesign with the
critiques in mind and revamped my design. I used the circle shape tool to create
repetition in my design and the rule of odds. Using the shapes I created a flowing
motion down to the bottom of the page where the viewer would see location as
well as where to register.
Event Ad

Full bleed color event ad, promoting a fundraiser; designed in Microsoft Word.

Course/Instructor:
Programs/Tools:
Objective:
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together) Find, scan and
import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Process:
I used an image out of the Jeep Off-Road Photography By Ken Brubaker. The
photo size was a 3.5 inches by 6 inches. The scanner was a Epson Perfection
V600 Scanner. From there I placed the photo into the Publishing Layout View
of Microsoft word. I used tools in the program to create text boxes that helped
text to stand out and catch the eye. I used the sun shape tool and aligned the
text inside the sun. I also cropped the Jeep so it did not have a background in
Microsoft word. I added a photo of a tire mark and edited inside of Microsoft
word to add texture and depth to the flier.

Objective:
Process:
I cropped the background image to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. I then added the
hands with the scriptures and added a mask to the layer. I softened all the hard
edges and added an oil piant effect on the hands. I then added another image
of climbers onto the mountain with a mask and softened the whole image. I
added text to the image and bolded, beveled and added gradient to the word
mountains. I made the text interact with the mountains.
