There are dozens of varieties of basketweave. This one is nice because it is worked over a fairly short repeat, so it can easily be Substituted for another pattern. Although itis not reversible, the back side is very pretty and the fabric does not roll This makes it great for scarves, cowls, blankets and all those things that show on both sides. Garden Rows This texture is formed by purling stitches together on the right side, This forms really wonderful horizontal rows. Between the bundled stitches, a float forms on the right side of the fabric. As a bonus, the three rows of simple knit or purl will compensate for the rather slow, tedious row in which ‘you purl stitches together all the way across, oe Bs See Garden Rows (multiple of 3 + 2 sts) Row 1 (RS): Knit. Even in dark yarns, the shadows and light make the deep texture obvious and beautiful. Again, the back side looks very different from. the front, but itis still attractive and does not roll, The slipped stitches will make the fabric pretty firm, so use a larger needle than typical for your yarn. Using the same needles and yam you will use for your project, knit a ‘swatch that is about 5" (12.5 cm) square. Count the number of stitches and rows in 4". If you have more rows or stitches than indicated in your pattern, try larger needles and knit another ‘swatch. If you have fewer rows or stitches than indicated, make another swatch using smaller needles. Continue this process until your swatch matches the numbers given in your pattern. Although this seems tedious, it is worth the time to increase the accuracy of the finished size of your project. A gauge tool, such as the one shown, can aid in counting stitches and rows.
