How the Beatles Changed the Face of Music
From the United Kingdom all the way to the United States the Beatles have been taking
the world by storm. For centurys now they have been changing the way music sounds, and been
influencing people like you and me. The Beatles may as well be the biggest and most popular
rock group of all time from their music to their styles have completely altered the music scene
and has greatly impacted the lives of people who listen.
John Lennon, at age seventeen, formed his first band made entirely of his school friends
(White 1). In the summer of 1957 Paul McCartney auditioned for the group and joined that
October as the lead guitarist (White 1). As a couple of band members left the newly formed
group this gave Paul the opportunity to introduce Lennon to George Harrison. The band now
consisted of John, Paul, George, and there drummer Pete Best who was the drummer and who
wasnt on best terms with the other members. Since Best wasnt well liked Ringo Star was
recruited to replace Pete. These fab four formed together to create the well-loved band we all
know as The Beatles.
The Beatles were the ultimate boy band who took great risks for fame. They were a huge
burst of cool air into the musical scene (McGasko 1). Not only were they different with their

hair, accent, and overall style but it seemed to make the girls go wild. There was Paul, the cute
one; John, the smart and edgy one; George, shy and quiet one; and Ringo, the goofy one
(McGasko 1). They all seemed to be in sync with each other and that what made this band so
great. Thats why many of the British bands after The Beatles tried to mimic their style and
music.
The Beatles created a style that was so desirable (McGasko 1). Their looks made the girls
hot and heavy and it made the guys mad and envious. The Beatles came to America with long
shabby hair and a very different style that America at that time wasnt used too. Of course
everybody wanted The Beatles success so as they got bigger more and more bands started
copying their hair and style (McGasko 1). Eventually they even influenced the most respected
people like the politicians to start growing their hair out (McGasko). The Beatles were the ones
who made style what it is today!
The Beatles made rock n roll what it is today! The Beatles changed the sound of music,
they introduced songs with weird and unusual words and psychedelic beats. Some examples of
their weird music were Strawberry Fields forever, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and my
personal favorite I am the Walrus. The Beatles took risks and did stuff that ultimately changed
the music scene forever. According to Tom Daniel, The Beatles pioneered Artificial Double
Tracking, back masking, tuned feedback, spliced audio loops, distortion, equalization, stereo
effects, multi-tracking, compression, and phase shifting, (Daniel 1). These Studio tricks
inspired musicians who were so desperate to mimic these psychedelic techniques.
The Beatles music is the only aspect of their legacy most people know about them but is
not even the main feature (Benjamin 1). The Beatles were also actors and made movies that told
the story behind their songs. Some songs now a days dont tell stories and dont relate to a

normal persons life. But The Beatles songs always had backstories and was always relatable.
They have movies like the Yellow Submarine, and Hard Days Night. But one of my personal
favorites was Help. I grew up watching this movie and it really made my childhood special!
Even today Beatles music is still widely listened too and still impacts the young people of
today. Today they have remaster versions of their music and even have a game called The
Beatles Rock Band which features many of their popular songs. Ever since the Rock Band
premier kids of all ages have begun to know who The Beatles were and just from their music
their lives changed. Kids now learn songs with meaning and can take those lyrics and apply them
to their lives and become successful.
Even after one of the most popular band members died he still continued to influence
everyone. John Lennon on December 10, 1980 at the age of forty passed away (Zdanowicz 1).
His life was taken by Mark David Chapman after his asked Lennon for his signature. Chapman
pulled out a gun and shot and killed the most influential man alive. The whole world cried and a
major influential song people played after his death was All You Need is Love (Zdanowicz 1).
People still after thirty some years later mourn his death and celebrate his life.
The Beatles Have played a major role in how I carry out my life and have taught me
valuable life lessons. They taught me about peace, love, and how to accept myself. And I live
with these values every day. If I was ever sad or depressed I would always turn on one of their
songs and it would cheer me right up. Without them I wouldnt be the person I am today. From
their movies, music, and style they are by far the most influential band that has ever walked this
earth. The Beatles are by far my favorite band known to man and if you have never heard of
them youre missing out, because who knows they could also change your life also.
