Edison State Community College provides the learning opportunities, support services, and

Core Values
The core values are a set of principles that guide Edison State Community College in
creating its educational programs and environment. They will be reflected in every
aspect of the College. Students educational experiences will incorporate the core
values at all levels, so that a student who completes a degree program at Edison
State Community College will not only have been introduced to each value, but will
have had them reinforced and refined at every opportunity.

Edison State Community College will be the regions premier resource for higher education by employing

The Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching fosters and sustains faculty development in the
pursuit of exemplary practices in teaching and learning. The goals include:
Classroom: Encouraging innovation, classroom research, best practices, and discipline-specific and multidisciplinary interaction.
Community: Creating an opportunity for students, faculty, administration and the community to dialogue about
teaching and learning.
Teaching assessment and peer review: Teaching assessment and peer review to aid in the continuing
development of faculty.
Mentoring: Mentoring faculty to build learning communities and relationships between colleagues.
Resources: Providing resources to support teaching and learning strategies.
Advocacy: Promoting and advocating for teaching excellence.

It is the mission of the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching to support the
communication of knowledge and the love of learning by faculty, to provide the resources that
enable excellent teaching, and to sustain the inspiration instructors provide to their students.

The idea of faculty mentorship programs has been around been around for quite
some time, but began to decline in 1950s due to a perceived power struggle.
Today mentorship programs are making a comeback and several institutions have
some sort of faculty mentorship program.
