Weekly Report

EDT593 Applied Project

Weekly Report Week #4: February 7, 2016 - Takako Kobayashi

Keep a running total of hours spent: 5 hours this week total to date 150 hours
Work completed: I keep communicating with Dr. Bitter. I shared APP with other people:
instructional coaches in ASU ESL program, faculty and students in TESOL program at
Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), and colleagues working at
ASU.
Successes and struggles:
This week, I was able to maintain constant communication with Dr. Bitter, which helped clarify
the details of Step 2 (Situated/Audience Analysis). Especially, the student sample given during
the meeting was very helpful. Another success was that I was able to talk to several groups of
instructors and individuals about APP (as identified above). MIIS faculty agreed to share APP
with their students who are working as student teachers. In Week#5, I am going to meet
instructional coaches working at ASU ESL program to introduce APP. In terms of struggle,
although the student sample was very helpful to complete Step 2, I am not fully confident about
my Situated/Audience Analysis report due to the following reasons: 1) I have not had a specific
organization to test APP as well as connection with social media experts yet. It is still not sure if
people who I shared APP are going to use it; 2) I still have an only vague image of final
deliverables (i.e., social networking marketing plan). To solve these problems, I will continue
seeking guidance from Dr. Bitter and share information with Kim. In addition, I will thoroughly
work on literature review as brainstorming for marketing design.
Development of professional skills and knowledge
Explore and discover how APP can work to form a comprehensive resource for users and
investigate social media such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook to design a marketing plan for
APP. I will continue exploring how social media has been used for marketing while working on
Step 3 (literature review).
Workplace communications
Develop strategies to efficiently work with multiple stakeholders from different organizations
and to consistently communicate with project team how the project is progressing, in a way that
maximizes the effectiveness of the project given their areas of expertise. I will continue sharing
APP with instructors in different learning circumstances.
Leadership skills
Keep the project on schedule by meeting deadlines and communicating results in a concise yet
complete way. Follow up via email with team members in a respectful way to make sure things
move along. I will continue updating my progress with Dr. Bitter.
Ability to influence and/or impact change or forward movement in the business or organization
Empower users in coaching positions by supplying APP specialized for provision of feedback in
institutional settings. Develop the marketing plan via social networking to introduce APP and
help improve the quality of APP based on a formative assessment of prototype. The development
of this project will also contribute to sales promotion as well as further use of APP. I will meet
instructional coaches to introduce APP and contact social media experts.
