Class Knowledge Brainstorm
INTRODUCTION
-Create a poster, and ask the students, What do we know
about the continents? ask do we know anything? Its ok if
we dont because we are going to learn, but what do you
think continents of our world might mean?
-To begin take a look at the globe of our world.
-Ask students what is the blue?
What are the colours?
-Where do we live?
- Can you point Australia
- Do you know where in Australia we live? Yes Victoria, we
live in the state Victoria, can you point to it?
-Then put a world map which highlights the continents of
the projector.

To name and identify the continents

image of a continent with its name

on the projector.

INTRODUCTION
-Before lesson
-photo copy from Heieneman Atlas each of the continents
and laminate
-Print and laminate labels with each continents name
- Ensure these is enough copies so each student will have a
label or a map

CLICK ON BEGINNER LEVEL
-Allow students 10 minutes on this website in pairs of 2 on
I-pad or laptop to explore website to familiarise them with
the continents, what they look like and their names.

Divide students into groups of no more than four.
Students to explore globe and tick on a check list based on
features seen on the globe.
( Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean Southern
Ocean, Indian Ocean,Equator and all 7 continents.
CONCLUSION
-Engage in student reflection
-As a class complete a PMI on the globe.
-Have students show you certain features on the globe.

information about them

them that we are learning about the continents in class, ask
them to share with the children if any members in their
family come from another country and which continent

INTRODUCTION
- Before class gather facts and information about each
continent *(See interesting and amazing facts about the 7
continents document in Unit resources)*
-Before beginning lesson read picture book Whoever you
are, By Mem Fox.
-Explain to children that most continents have different
countries within them, for example Italy is a country in
Europe.
- Students sit in a circle and tell the class which family
member comes from a different country (parent grad
parent, great grandparent, aunt/uncle ect...) and what
country it is as well as the continent
MAIN BODY
-Explain to children that although many of our family
members may come from a different countries, some may
still come from the same continent.
-Ask children to form groups of the same continents, how
