Thislabreportaddressestheanalysisofrestingbaselinedatacomparedtotheexercise
datafromthecardiovascularandrespiratorysystems.Thecardiovascularsystem
isasystemthat
allowsbloodtoflowthroughandtransportnutrients,oxygen,carbondioxide,hormones,and
bloodcellstoandfromthecellsinthebodytoprovidenourishmentandhelpinfighting
diseases,andmaintaininghomeostasis.Anelectrocardiogram(EKG)isagraphicalrecordingof
theelectricaleventshappeningintheheart.Thereare5componentsofasinglebeatthatis
labeledP,Q,R,SandT.Thesereadingscanshowyouhowfastyourheartrateisandifyourheart
ishealthyornot.Asthewavesarerelatedtoheartrate,itisalsorelatedtobloodpressure.Blood
pressuredecreaseswhentheheartrateincreases,whichmeanstheheartisworkingproperly.But
whenthebloodpressuresrisesduetoadecreaseinheartrate,theEKGwillpickupthis
abnormality.RespiratoryvolumescanbecapturedthroughlungvolumebagsandpHlevels.The
respiratoryratecandisplayhowquicklyorslowlyyourheartisbeatingandhowthataffectsthe
aircapacityofyourlungs.
Question:Howdoescardiovascularvariations,suchasincreased/decreasedheartbeat,affect
respiratorylungvolumecapabilities?
Hypothesis:Ibelievecardiovascularvariations,willcauseadecreaseinrespiratorylungvolume
capabilities.
Materials:
Safetyinformation:Safetyforthislabincludedwearingglovesandgoggleswhenworkingwith
theacidforourpHlevels.Anothermajorprecautionwasbeingcarefulwithourbodieswhile
exercisingandknowingourlimits.Theindividualduringlabmustpayattentiontoanysignsof
lightheadedness,dizziness,orextremeshortnessofbreath.

Analysisofrespiratorydata:TherespiratorydataandthepHlevelsshowsthatatrestwecan
produceabouttheaverageoxygenvolumesandcanloweraciditywithourcarbondioxideby
6.62%.Butwiththreeminutesofexercise,IwasabletogetabouttheaverageTV,yetwhenit
cametothelongexhale,Iwassooutofbreath,couldn'tgetverymuchairtofillthebag.With
thepHlevelsincemyheartwasbeatingfaster,Iexhaledmorecarbondecreasingtheacidlevel
to19.39%.So,inconclusionincreasedheartratecausesadecreaseinbreath,whichleadstoa
decreaseintherespiratorylungvolumecapability.
