In my class students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of fitness and sports
activities. The goals this year is to significantly improve fitness levels throughout the
year using both aerobic and anaerobic exercises. In addition, students will participate in
a variety of fitness tests. We will provide students with the understanding of how to stay
fit when they exit this class.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be on time and dress out.
2. Participate fully, display positive attitude and effort.
3. Follow directions and stay on task.
4. Show respect for teachers and peers.
5. Remain in designated area and never leave without permission.
DRESS OUT REQUIREMENTS:
1. School PE shorts (black athletic shorts).
2. School PE t-shirts (white plain t-shirts).
3. Socks and athletic shoes with laces.
4. Combination padlock (NO key locks)
5. No jewelry (necklaces, hanging earrings, watches, etc.)
o PE uniforms and locks are available for sale in bookstore
EXCUSES:
To be excused from Physical Education a note is required from a parent/guardian on the
day to be excused stating the reason for which the student needs to be excused.
Students will still dress out and do what they can to earn their daily points. For any
absences for 3 days or more a Medical Doctors note will be needed to be excused. Not
all excuses will warrant a students complete non-participation.

MAKE-UP POLICY:
Students may do make-up work or points by either participating in lunchtime intramurals
or summarizing a health/nutrition article. Points will be unable to made-up once points
are taken for disciplinary reasons. Students have the opportunity to come in during
lunchtime intramurals and participate actively to make up participation points. Students
will have to check in with a Physical Education teacher and obtain a stamp in their Pride
Planner to receive points. Students can also summarize a health/nutrition article of their
choice to also make up points. For late work, when assigned will lose 20% a day until
turned in and cannot be made up.
GRADING:
90% = Participation

10% = PE Final Exam

SCALE
100% - 90% = A (To receive an A student do A work)
89% - 80% = B
79% - 70% = C
69% - 60% = D
59% - Below = F
Physical Education is a participation and effort based class so attendance and dressing
out are important. Students can earn 20 points per day. All absences are -20 points. A
non-dress is -20 points. Points will be deducted for unacceptable behavior and rule
violations at teachers discretion and may NOT be made up.
RULE CONSEQUENCES:
1st offense- verbal warning
2nd offense- time out of activity and loss of points (return when student is ready to
correct behavior)
3rd offense- parent communication after class and loss of points
Any more offenses will lead to a referral to the Dean (follow school policy) and
loss of ALL points

Locker Room Rules

You are asked to enter the locker room through the OUTSIDE/WEST door only!
The only exception to this rule will be on rainy days or if directed by a coach, in
which you will enter through the hallway door.

You will be assigned a locker and are expected to stay in that locker. Do not
share your locker with anyone. Part of being prepared for class will involve
frequent locker/lock checks by your coach.

It is your responsibility to keep your belongings locked up at all times. This will
require a combination lock (No Key Locks), preferably a master lock. HJHS will
not be responsible for lost/stolen items.

Absolutely no HORSEPLAY of any kind is acceptable in the locker room. For

Example; placing your hands or feet on another student or their belongings,
anything other than walking when moving about the locker room, throwing items
of any kind, snapping another student with clothing or towel, etc.

You will be expected to be dressed out and sitting with your Pride Book in your
assigned area, 4 minutes after the tardy bell rings.

It is a privilege to be able to talk in the locker room, do not abuse it or it can be

taken away.

You will be required to remain in the locker room at all times between bells,
unless otherwise directed by a coach. Leaving the locker room without
permission during this time is considered ditching.

Missing items of any kind must be reported to your coach IMMEDIATELY!

All hats should be removed when entering the physical education building. You
are welcome to wear your hat outdoors (Hat bill forward only please).

The locker room is off limits during class time, without an adult present.

Weight room policies must be followed at all times
