Rubric Directions:
Student presents their project (including artifacts from the investigation, research, action, and
awareness steps) in a 10-minute presentation using digital tools as a visual aid. Presentation is
completed on deadline assigned. Student shows preparedness and effort in presentation.
The 10-minute presentation will give you a chance to share your accomplishments with your
classmates. Review each of your reflections and the artifacts you used/discovered in each of the
rubric stages: Investigation, Research, Action, and Advocacy and explain your community issues to
the class, along with what you did to help this issue. Use the below tips as a guide and remember to
PRACTICE BEFORE YOU PRESENT!
TIPS:
1. Use note cards to help organize your presentation. You should not read off a sheet of paper or
read off the Powerpoint/visual aid. Practice in front of the mirror to see how much you need to
rely on your notecards. (lets create your first note card together)
2. Keep your introduction short. Introduce yourself and you must include the project Driving
Question and other information you feel is important to help your audience understand the
community issue. The driving questions helps the audience understand what your presentation
will be covering. It makes it more interesting.
3. When using your digital tool keep the text to a minimum, but be prepared to talk about it
and add more information in your speech.
a. Digital tools can be: Powerpoint, create a video (5 minutes max), picture slideshow,
prezi and other forms.
b. Check the font size. Make sure people from a distance can read it.
c. Bullet the points you will be discussing. Do not write out paragraphs
d. Use pictures, graphs, and charts to get your information across. No selfies please ;-).
4. Speak slowly. Pause when you need to take a breath.
5. Project your voice loud enough for everyone to hear.
6. Do not agonize over mistakes dont say youre sorry, keep going.
7. Express your personality smile, laugh, joke if necessary.
8. Ask if anyone has questions at the end of a point you have made or presentation.
9. The most important thing is to make sure your presentation is interesting to your audience.
Get them excited about it as much as you are!
10. Remember, giving a presentation is hard work, make sure that youve done enough research
on your issue and practice, practice, practice!.
