Watercolor Crayon Techniques

by Karen Gibson
Technique 1

Super easy! Color directly on a bold image stamp using the watercolor crayons.
You can use different colors of crayons and overlap and blend on the stamp.
Lightly mist with mist bottle then stamp on watercolor paper.
You can also take the aqua painter to lightly wet the stamp.
Then stamp on paper.

Technique 2

Works best on open images. Ink stamp with StazOn and stamp on watercolor paper.
Let dry or use heat gun to set. Using crayons color directly in the image.
Keep lighter colors in the center then work out to darker colors.
Blend colors from the edges to the center using aqua painter
or watercolor brush and water.

Technique 3

Stamp a detail stamp onto watercolor paper with StazOn.

Let dry or heat set.
Use the aqua painter and brush over the top of crayon.
Then paint the image.
I don’t overly clean the aqua painter when I change colors.
This gives a more blended look.
Technique 4

Spritz watercolor paper with water. Color directly on stamp with crayons. Mist the colored stamp,
and stamp on the watercolor paper. Let the paper dry. Overstamp the image with StazOn. This
looks great with two step stamping sets. But don’t limit yourself to just two step stamping sets.
Works great with just single stamp.

Technique 5

You will never know what you will get with this one! Stamp on glossy with StazOn ink.
Heat set stamped image.
Scribble over the glossy. Yes you heard right just scribble away! Keep the lighter colors towards
the center and use darker colors as you extend outward.
Spray glossy with water. Don’t mist, you want a lot of water on the glossy.
Use heat tool to move the water around and to blend the colors
Sprinkle clear embossing powder over the glossy, especially in the puddles of water.
Heat until the embossing powder is set. Most of the powder will blow away. What is left looks
awesome!

Technique 6
Stamp image three times on shimmery white using VersaMark ink.
Sprinkle with clear embossing powder and emboss
Here I go back to scribbling again! Scribble all over cardstock, using crayons to match your
images. Greens on leaves, yellows, orange, and red on flowers. You get the idea.
Using a damp (water) sponge, sponge over the images to blend the colors

Technique 7

This is done exactly like technique, but instead of shimmery white cardstock you will use glossy
white. You get a different look with the glossy.
I crated the colored background using watercolor crayons and a paint brush on PL White cardstock. The
butterfly image was stamped over the background with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and a paper pierced
trail was made under it.
