Dear Milton Public School Parents/Guardians and Staff,

I am sure that all of you are aware of the MWRA WATER MAIN BREAK that resulted in a STATE OF
EMERGENCY here in Milton and in over 30 other communities. Milton residents received a
Reverse 911 call this morning and the emergency is being highly publicized.

The Milton Public Schools will be open tomorrow, Monday, May 3rd.

Bill Ritchie, our Director of Buildings and Grounds and I communicated Saturday night and met and
worked with our custodians, School Lunch Director Jackie Morgan and Head Nurse Margaret
Gibbons today. Our senior custodians worked today and covered all bubblers/water fountains and
put up “Do Not Drink the Water” signs over all bubblers/water fountains. All student bathroom sinks
have been covered and signs put up to not use the water and to use hand sanitizer only. We
purchased 400 containers of hand sanitizer today and the containers will be placed at each sink in
each school as of the beginning of school tomorrow. Teachers will be asked to review all practices
and procedures with their students.

Parents/Guardians, I encourage you to send your child to school tomorrow with at least one full water
bottle/container or other beverage to drink. I encourage all staff to bring their own water or beverage
bottle/ container to school. Physical activities will be held to a minimum.

Our School Lunch Director, Jackie Morgan is confident that the Milton Public Schools can serve
breakfast and lunches tomorrow with no concern.

After-school activities will go on as scheduled.

We have put these plans in place to assure the safety of our students and staff, with the current
information we have at our disposal, as of this time. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.

I will provide you with further updates as this State of Emergency continues.

Sincerely,

Mary C. Gormley
