Library Improvement Objectives
Continually addresses issues and needs of staff and
students identified by librarian, and other campus and district staff, including administrators through professional development for staff and curriculum integration of technology and information literacy for students. Knowledgeable of the TEKS and collaborates with
teachers in all subject areas to integrate State-mandated curriculum into at least 90% of the lesson plans presented in the library. Action Plan/Strategies
1. The library will sponsor two
Dimension U tournaments. One in October and one in March. The competition will be in both math and literacy. The top 3 students in each content area per grade level (2nd-5th) will advance to the district competition. 2. The library will be open in the mornings from 7:30-7:50 and after school from 3:10-3:40 for students to work on homework, check out books, and conduct research. 3. During open checkout a teacher may send a student to the library for readers guidance. There will be a short form for the teacher to fill out (ex. name, grade, lexile level, thumps up/down to indicate if they need more or less challenging books) to send with the student. Then the librarian will conference with the student and assist them in finding a book. 4. There will be a Google form for teachers to request materials, books, and digital resources that will support the reading and math curriculum. 1. The librarian will provide one book talk per six weeks for both 4th & 5th grade over a book that is at the high end of the lexile level for the grade level. 2. The librarian will run three reading promotion events per year, one in the fall, spring, and summer. a. Fall- Caught You Reading Event- In AugustNovember Staff will pass out caught reading tickets to
students who are reading in their
free time. These tickets will be put into a drawing for a special date with the librarian. In December tickets will drawn and students will be invited to stay after school on a Friday to preview new books, read, create book trailers, and have hot chocolate and snacks. Each student will receive a book as a prize. b. Spring- Read-aThon Students will family and friends to pledge an amount of money for the number of pages that they read. The money will be donated to a district reading program that provides books to students in need. The top class from each grade level will receive a picnic party with extended recess and popcorn. c. SummerStudents will track how many books they read over the summer. There will be a minimum number of books to read per grade level. Students who meet the reading goal will be invited to a slip & slide party in August. 3. The librarian will collaborate with 4th/5th grade reading teachers to develop collaborative lessons for the library based on the lowest reporting categories. The librarian will teach three targeted lessons for each grade per semester. 4. The librarian will present a
lesson at the beginning of each semester
to educate students on how to find a book that is at their lexile/reading level. Throughout the semester the librarian will reference this lesson as she/he advises students during checkout. By June 2016, there will be a 10% increase on the overall advance level III performance on STAAR (30% in 2014 and 32% in 2015).

By June 2016, Beaver MST will provide three
sessions for students and one session for parents over cybersafety.
Serves on school technology committee, helps develop the
school technology plan, and provides input in the development of the district technology plan. Standard 3, Principle 3, Criteria F
1. Participate in two critical friends
sessions per grade level to review PBL projects and provide feedback before a project launches. 2. For each PBL project in grades 3-5 the librarian will provide a minimum of one library or classroom research support lesson specifically geared towards that project. 3. During Makerspace the librarian will ensure that at least two stations offered are aligned to the TEKS. Examples: a. CircuitsStudents must create closed circuits in order to have the light bulb lit. b. Building Challenge where students must add/subtract and record measurements
1. At the September PTA, the
technology committee will host a cyber safety night to educate parents and students about cyber safety. 2. Cyber Safety Contest- The librarian and counselor will host a cyber safety poster contest. Students will
create a cyber safety poster. The top
poster from each grade level will be the winner. Winning posters will be showcased in the hallways, on the school website, and on the announcements. 3. The librarian and counselor will collaboratively teach one lesson per semester to each class over cybersafety. 4. There will be a Google form for classroom teachers to request a collaborative lesson over cyber safety and netiquette.
Special Projects Project 1: Plan and implement a Caught Reading Contest
Timeline: Complete during Fall 2016
Expense: Approximately $250- A book for each student, hot chocolate & snacks Funding Sources: PTA - $250, possibly ask a local book store or Half Price Books to donate books Publicity: Posters around the school and on the website to promote the contest, photos of students caught reading on the announcements, website, and Twitter. The librarian will take pictures at the celebration for the announcements and to post on the website and Twitter. The photos will also be sent with thank you notes to the PTA and whoever donates the books.
