Objective (Explicit):

Students will be able to recite what they learned about the bombing of Hiroshima.
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):

Students will turn in a complete KWL chart describing what they had learned about Hiroshima from the

lesson.

Sub-objectives, SWBAT (Sequenced from basic to complex):

Students will be able to recall basic information about WWII.


Students will be able to identify key events that led up to the bombing of Hiroshima.
Students will be able to write about different perspectives of WWII based on primary resources.

Opening (state objectives, connect to previous learning, and make relevant to real life)

Students will be given a KWL chart and will be asked write only in the the K (know), what
they know about WWII, specifically the bombing of Hiroshima.

Students can also use this time to fill out the W (want to know/learn) in the chart.

Once students are done, the class will come together to discuss what they know.

on them.

Teacher will ask students if they know what


Pearl Harbor is, and what an atomic bomb is.
Teacher will listen to student answers and not
correct any answers, letting the students
express their ideas and build off of other
students ideas.
Teacher will write answers on chart paper or
whiteboard
Teacher will play the three short videos
introducing what brought the U.S. into war
with Japan
Teacher will ask students to pay attention and
take notes if they feel necessary.
Teacher will instruct students who are not
taking notes to only have their KWL charts on their
desks.

After videos, teacher will ask students again what


Pearl Harbor is and what an atomic bomb is.
Teacher will ask students to think and then share
with a partner or small groups
Teacher then ask each group or pairing the answer
the quesitons.
Teacher will write answers on board or chart paper
below original answers
Teacher will then ask students to express, in
groups, how they would feel as American or
Japanese citizens if they were alive during these
attacks.
Teacher will ask students to come together and
express their feelings in a full group discussion.

prespective of a U.S. or Japanese citizen after
either attack. Must be at least two paragraphs.
