Joint Parent/Caregiver & Child

Learning Conversation Activities

First Section: Classroom Practices

The Learning Conversation Activities sheet Joint Parent/Caregiver & Child was sent
home to parents/caregivers on Friday 18th March. It was due back at school on Monday 21st
March.
The response rate was 52% overall. The response rate ranged between 42% for year 1
parents and 71% for Senior (year 5 & 6) parents. In hindsight this was possibly not the best
timing as school broke up for the school holidays the day after the sheet was due back.
However, the evidence is extremely encouraging.
Section A:
99% of all respondents know about the links between classroom practices and the kinds of
learners the school is helping to develop.
All sheets (except one that was returned with section a and b not having been done) show
evidence that parents / caregivers know about the links between classroom practices and
the kinds of learners the school is helping to develop.
Each parent or their child ranked examples of classroom practices that the child thought
best helped them in developing the personal goals (aligned with Love, Learn, Live).
Section B:
95% of all respondents have discussed the classroom practices that best help their child
learn, and they list practices that they use at home to support their childs learning out of
school.
Most sheets (all except 6 sheets) show evidence that parents / caregivers have discussed
with their child the classroom practices that best help their child learn and they list practices
that they use at home to support their childs learning outside of school. Of the 6 sheets
that did not clearly show this evidence, 5 sheets were not completed and 1 sheet just listed
9 separate subjects i.e. Art, Science etc rather than listing actual practices.
