Project Self-Evaluation
1. Describe what you did for your physical project in at least 25 words. Include the total
number of hours you spent on the project. Please BOLD the number of hours.

For my project, I had to create a video game of my choice in Java from scratch. I had
to understand the basics of coding, and use it to mold the progress of my video game.
As a whole, the project consists of learning the code and creating a video game from
the knowledge that I gain. Throughout my time spent on this project, I had
accumulated a total of 18.5 hours.

2. Explain how your physical product (project) relates to, supports and/or builds upon the
content of your research paper. Be specific and give examples.

Because my research paper was about the benefits of learning code in schools, this
project reflects that concept by proving how learning code can be beneficial in at least
one way. In this case, I wanted to prove how by learning code, one can amount to
something like creating a video game. The basis of my project revolved around
learning how to code through self-interest. If the average student can experience
coding firsthand, he/she can be open to so much more opportunities, such as creating
video games.

3. What is the most important skill you have acquired during the project phase, or the most
important thing you learned about yourself?

The most important skill was how to code and how it can be applied to various
concepts. Because this requires much time commitment and patience, coding can help
develop other logic based skills.

4.

On an emotional, intellectual, and/or physical level, what did you learn about yourself
during the process of the entire Senior Project here at Sierra Vista High School?

Phan 2

On a personal level, I had learned the importance of time commitment and efficiency.
Because of the short time I had given myself for this project, I was unable to amount
to what I truly desired. In the end, this taught me to be wiser about my time and how
to use it effective to accomplish my desires.

5. Describe problems you encountered during the completion of your project hours and explain
how you handled/solved these problems.

The major problem I had was poor schedule planning. When badminton season
began, I was forced to commit my time in sports and my academics rather than on
this project. As a result, I was unable to accomplish what I had expected.
Unfortunately, instead of foreseeing this issue, I allowed myself to delay, which then
became the reason for my projects incompletion.

6. If given the opportunity to redo the physical product/project, what would you do differently?

If I was given the opportunity to redo the project, I would most definitely be more
efficient in my time, and give myself a reasonable schedule to plan for any other
tasks.

7. Did your project turn out the way you envisioned it in the beginning or did you have to
modify your plans/vision? How did you adjust it?

Unfortunately, my project turned out to be incomplete, and thus, I was forced to

reformat my original plan to a much simpler design. As my time become constrained,
I had to change the project from being a complex role-playing game with witty
dialogue to a simple recreation of chess.

8. How does this project relate to your future goals? How will this area of interest continue to
be a part of your life? If not at all, why?

This project relates to practically any project I would have in the future. Because I
had failed to do what I sought out in the beginning, I have now realized that I must
become more efficient when I engage in these types of projects. Coding will most
definitely be a part of my life because I have chosen the career path to be a computer
scientist. Even though this project turned out to not be what I had envisioned in the
beginning, it would not affect how I perceive my career path directly.

9. What grade would you give yourself for your project? Justify the evaluation of your grade in
at least 25 words, giving specific support.

Phan 3

Although I had a major issue in my project, in the end, I had done as much as I could
to reprimand for my mistakes. As a result, I could say that I may still deserve a
modest grade. Even though I had not completed it fully, the effort I gave in the
beginning and end was enough to prove how it connects to my research paper topic.
The success of coding a project is dependent on time efficiency and logical thinking,
which are skills that are developed through practice.
