Brandon Flores

SKILLS-CENTERED COURSE DESIGN

LEARNER TARGET SITUATION
My learner has 50 years old , her language proficiency is none I mean too low,
her competency is so low, also she needs increase up her English level and her
communicative skills in order to achieve the competence to travel as a tourist
un such situation her desire is to be able to keep small conversations in specific
situation for example how to ask for addresses, ask for a room in a Hotel, or
how to pass for immigration in airports or customs, her interest is to travel
abroad as a tourist so she needs English for trips.

SKILLS AND STRATEGIES REQUIRED

The most important skills to develop is Listening and Speaking as well as
reading and writing but in lower level, the leaner needs to comprehend how it
works at least the verb to be in order to build her own sentences and
expressions and it has to have coherence and the best pronunciation as
possible for that purpose she must learn and develop two different types of
listening:
>Listening for gist
>Listening for specific information
For speaking she needs to be able to communicate in interactive situations and
partial interactive situations so she needs how a conversation in such situations
is built and what kind of vocabulary is used, it will be constantly an error
correction part to correct as much as possible her pronunciation as well as to
write the phonetic pronunciation also I will use multimedia material to carried
out it.
THERORETICAL VIEWS OF LANGUAGE
The syllabus is focus in a functional/notional grammar, which is important but
is not going to be totally focus on it, in that method the student will be able to
express different communicative functions (e.g. ask for prices, for addresses).
