Objective

Experience

To obtain a position at an elementary school that will utilize my commitment to my students

educational and developmental needs in addition to providing a safe space away from home.

Practicum in a First Grade Class

[2/1/16-Present]

My goal in practicum was to understand the rigor demands of teaching as well as the nature of
childrens development. I focused on the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development
of young children, the environment of the classroom, and curriculum of first grade. While in
practicum I completed a case study on one child, created lesson plans, and carried out other
tasks that my cooperating teacher requested of me.
ELL Childcare

[3/1/16-Present]

This childcare program was held for kids whose parents were taking ELL (English Language
Learners) classes. It exposed me to a diverse group of children and different cultures where I read
with them to work on their English skills, helped them with learning exercises in the computer lab,
and aided them with their transition from their old country to the United States.
Camp Counselor

[May 2014-Present]

As a camp counselor I was responsible for the daily supervision, daily activity planning, safety, and
group management of groups between 20 and 60 campers aged 6 to 14. I was required to work in
a team setting to accomplish goals and provide an enjoyable camp experience for the children.
This would also require that I maintain communication with campers parents/ guardians about
what goes on during the day. Occasionally throughout the summer I took on the role as assistant
head counselor where I would work to ensure transportation to and from field trips would run
smoothly, supervise other staff members, and monitor day to day camp operations.
Volunteer in a Third Grade Class

[September 2015- December 2015]

I spent my semester volunteering in a third grade math class where I worked one on one, in small
group, and whole class activities. I worked with a teacher who gave me activities to execute with
the kids. These consisted of games, worksheets, and teaching new concepts. At times I would be
left in charge with supervising the students while she ran errands and I was responsible for the
safety and well being of those children in the classroom.

Education

James Madison University

[August 2013- May 2016]

I am currently a Junior at James Madison University where I am pursuing a degree in

Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies, minoring in Elementary Education, with a concentration in
Humanities in Social Sciences.

Skills

I have honed my verbal and written communication skills by interacting with not only
students and children but their parents and my coworkers as well.

My decision-making is quick due to my ability to critically think about any situation I am

placed in.

Able to organize lessons and plan for things that can go wrong, this way I am prepared
when things dont go as expected.

I am flexible; working with kids you never know what to expect or where the day will take
you.

I am tolerant of different cultures due to my exposure in different regions.

I can manage a classroom from my seminars at James Madison University as well as my

real life experience.

Creating and executing lesson plans on time shows that I am able to set goals and meet
them.
