Procedure:

Before class:

Make sure computer and smartboard work

Introduction: min

Explain that last class we found where Saskatoon is, and learned that we will be making a
brochure about Saskatoon to try to get people who live in Lethbridge, to visit or move to
Saskatoon.
Ask students if they know what a brochure is.

Body: min

Activity 1: min

Hand out brochures for students to look at in pairs.

Discuss what types of things are included in the brochures.
Brainstorm (on smartboard) what types of things they would want to learn about
Saskatoon in a brochure, and what types of things would convince them to go visit
Saskatoon.
Brainstorm, in pairs, questions they have about the things we just talked about, or any
other questions they have about Saskatoon or Saskatchewan.

Activity 2: min

Explain that we will read a book about the prairies, and see if we can answer any of the
questions we came up with.
Go over carpet behaviour and expectations, then invite students to the carpet.
Read A Prairie Year, stopping and inviting discussion as we go.

Sponge Activity:

Read Saskatchewan, or one of the other Prairies books I borrowed from the libraries.

Closing: min

Explain that I will put all of their questions into a document, and print it off so we can make
sure we answer them all before the end of the unit.
Dismiss students to get ready for home time.

Special Considerations:

Larger brochure for Keegan, because he has bigger, messier printing.

Ensure Claudia sits far from Wesley, and Koh doesn't sit by any boys.
Give brochures with more pictures and fewer words to Wesley and Khloe.
