Diversity and Global learning are both part of the digital age generations way of
learning. Diversity comes in many forms. Internet usage in the digital age
generation has helped develop student understanding and acceptance of diversity.
No longer are classrooms filled with students that all look like one another.
Internet tools and resources have a made differentiation for diverse learners easier
than ever by using language translator apps such as Google Translate on
Android or Google Translate on Apple and also iHandy. Rosetta Stone is also a
valid resource. Using differentiation as a baseline, the use of internet games,
social platform such as Edmodo or twitter, and WebQuests make it easier for the
teachers to reach these learners
Global Education is a website with resources for teachers to encourage a global
perspective across the curriculum. The site provides many teaching activities that
are authentic and meaningful and are globalization at its best. Google Earth can
also be utilized in social studies and literature studies to learn more about the area
and region of the topic. It brings real-world issues to right where you are.
Furthering the idea of global learning, Richardson (2010) stresses, blogging
across the curriculum, offers students and teachers not only the ability to infuse
writing unto all disciplines, it facilitates connections in ways plain paper cannot.
(p.33) Blogging creates a means of communication and collaboration helping
students to know more about whatever it is they are studying, and they can
experience real-life images and connect with an audience around the world.
Both Diversity and Global Learning are easier than ever to navigate, and our
digital age generation is only taking it a step further every day.
