According to the students IEPs, they are learning life skills and related vocabulary. They are able to follow the procedure of a recent
lock down drill by following everyone else, but they do not understand the reason, vocabulary, and how to apply it in their life.

Discuss with their interpreter the process for a lock down
Demonstration

Students, interpreter, and teacher will demonstrate the lock down procedure together
Teacher locks the classroom door
Students stay calm and quiet so they can hear/see the teachers instructions
Students pay attention and follow the instructions given
Students quickly move to an area where they will be safe
Ignore announcements over the intercom
Students remain calm and quiet until the all clear is given (someone unlocks the door)

Discussion

Discuss how to apply the school lock down to other places, like Walmart
Discuss how to talk with their parents

Conclusion
Post Test (Redo pretest with additional questions)
Test students ability to read and or sign the vocabulary terms using correct sign and speech.
Test students familiarity with the lock down visual.
Lock Down practice students will be tested separately and together using the schools lockdown checklist.

Addressing Learners Diverse Needs


Formative/Summative Assessment
Formative Students will show understanding during the lesson by answer questions and giving examples in various
communication modes throughout the lesson. Explanation of understanding the visual chart and vocabulary.
Summative - Pre and posttest reading, signing, and speech articulation and pronunciation of vocabulary words and
giving own examples from memory to the teacher. Demonstration of following the lock down procedure and answering
questions appropriately.
Data Analysis and Reflection on Planning/Instruction; Plans for Re-teaching (as applicable)
The data collection of the pretest and posttest (the students formative and summative assessments results) will
determine if additional teaching is needed for mastery of objectives and standard.
We will have a random practice lock down day.

Bring any students into your room from the hallway.


Lock the door and turn out the lights.
Cover the window of the door.
Move students to an area on the floor away from the exterior window.
Remain quiet throughout the drill.
Do not answer the door.
When the drill is over, a principal or SRO will open your door and tell you to resume normal class activities.
