The teacher will tell the students Today we are going to read
a book called The Princess and the Pizza. We are going to

4. Guided Practice

The teacher is going to use a beach ball as a talking stick. The

teacher will have the students pass the ball around the room to
students that have their hand raised to answer the question.
The teacher will ask the students questions like What does it
mean to summarize?, How do you describe a character? and
What can you tell me about fairytales?.

The teacher is going to have the students listen to an interactive

read aloud video of The Princess and the Pizza.
The teacher will point out during the read aloud the vocabulary
words the students have been learning about.
The teacher will have the students sit on the carpet and will go
over the vocabulary words that were pointed out during the
video. The teacher will have the students talk about what they

Summarize the story and explain the lesson it teaches.
If time permits the students will then pick a pair of students
from each group to go in front of the class to tell the other group
what their groups question was, and what their group came up
with as an answer.
The students will return to their seats, and will pull out their
writers notebook.
In their writers notebook they are going to write a journal entry
on a time in their lives where they had to overcome and
obstacle.
The teacher should explain to the students what an obstacle is,
and give an example of an obstacle.
The teacher will tell the students that they need to relate the
obstacle they had to overcome to an obstacle that Princess
Paulina had to overcome in the story.
The students should use specific details from the book when
writing their journal entry.
The teacher will be walking around the classroom, and will be in groups
discussion.
The teacher will also collect the groups answers to the questions they were
given.
