Engagement/Focus (for BKIII, you must focus lesson on student(s) interest): Good afternoon, students. I am Ms. Carey, and I am Ms. Fauser. Today we
are going to talk about attitude and enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is when you really enjoy something and are really interested in it. Raise your
hand and as I point to you, tell me something you are enthusiastic about? For example, this semester, we both got our Aggie rings. That is
something we are both very enthusiastic about! [take student responses] Thank you for sharing, we love hearing about what you are
interested in. In your future job, you should show the same amount of enthusiasm about your work. Even if you are doing a task that isnt
your favorite, you can still have a good attitude about it.
Student Objective (Today you will be able to___.): By the end of our lesson, you will all have a more clear understanding and be able to
identify appropriate levels of enthusiasm and attitude in your future work place. To be sure we reach our goal for today, we need you all to
sit in your desks, give us your full attention, participate in group activities, and offer responses when asked.
Purpose of the Lesson (This information is important because___.): The purpose of this lesson is for you to build a firm knowledge and
understanding of the importance of attitude and display professionalism in the workplace with your supervisors, and coworkers. This
information is important to you because each of you will obtain a job after the program.
Explanation/Procedures (Relate to prior knowledge; describe what you will teach & model, what the students are to do with you, and what they are to do
independently - I do, We do, You do):

A positive attitude is when someone who is eager and ready to work. What does a positive attitude look like to others? A negative attitude is
when someone may complete and job, but complained about it, causing them to not complete it to the best of his or her ability. What does a
negative attitude look like to others? [write responses on board]
In order to have a positive attitude, you have to believe in yourself. In order to believe in yourself you have to know what your strengths
are. The first activity we will be doing today is going to help us all learn what our strengths are. We will take turns rolling the die on the
SMARTboard. If you roll a 1, you will say something you are thankful for. If you roll a 2, you will say what others compliment you about. If
you roll a 3, you will tell us something you want other people to know about. If you roll a 4, you will tell the class you feel good about
yourself when what happens. If you roll a 5, you will tell us youre proud of your ability to do what. If you roll a 6 you will tell us something
nice you did for someone else. [ask for volunteers to come up and participate in the activity] Thank you for opening up with us and
participating! Why do you think the response something nice I did for someone is was in our activity? [because doing for others often
makes us feel good about ourselves. When we feel good about ourselves, we demonstrate a positive attitude.]
For our next activity, you are going to sit with your table groups and go through some scenario cards we pass out. These cards have positive
attitude and negative attitude examples you may experience in real life. We want you to sort them out and put all he positive together and
all the negative together. Go ahead and start working and we will call the class back together when you finish. [walk around the room and
check for understanding, guide when necessary] Howdy! Lets review some of the scenarios. [read out scenarios and call on groups to see
where they placed and why] Excellent work everyone!
For our final activity we are going to pass out a worksheet for you to do individually. It has more positive and negative scenarios that revolve
around the workplace. You will read the scenarios and select your answer. When you finish, you may put your worksheet in the middle of
your table and sit quietly.
Higher Level Questions (must include what you plan to ask the students) : Why is that inappropriate for the workplace? Why is that your answer?
What could you do instead to express a positive attitude?
Extension (what will you do to go deeper into this topic):
Students will create a log for one week. They will write down all the good things that happen to them (finding a quarter, receiving a
compliment). Students can focus on the positive and come back and discuss if noticing the positive made them feel any different.
Elaboration (what else might you need to do/say to teach this skill/concept):
Have a small group discussion on appropriate and inappropriate actions in the workplace. Discuss some examples the students provide and
explain why they may or may not be the best reaction. Provide additional scenarios and ask the students how they would respond.
Closure (objective & purpose are restated; address how are you going to include the students in this) :
Assessment (how will you know when the student knows the information or can do the skill youve taught) :
Worksheet with scenarios for the workplace
