MAT 300 Music, Art & Theatre for Elementary and PED 266
Move-Dance-Learn PE for Elementary Education
o These courses have showed me the importance of children
being able to express themselves through creative outlets
and physical activity. They have given me many strategies
to use in the classroom.
EDI 337 Introduction to Learning & Assessment
o This coursed helped me to understand strategies for
students that have test anxiety, which I can relate to.
ENG 307 Teaching Writing: Elementary
o This class introduced the writers notebook to me and I
cannot wait to do this with my students.
ENG 304 International Literature for Children
o I learned the importance of talking about and reading
things from other cultures. I also learned that it is
important to be globally aware and I hope to bring this to
my students.
ENG 309 Teaching Literature to Children
o This course exposed me to a variety of literature. I was
able to develop my stance on censorship is school
literature as well as how important it is to bring different
type of literature into the classroom.
ENG 467 Language Disorders & English Literature
o This class taught me the importance of taking a set back
and looking at culture. It is important to recognize cultural
difference between you and students and become
knowledgeable about these to be able to connect with and
understand students. This course all taught me how to
keep a watching eye out for disabilities in the classroom,
the typical symptoms and how to move forward with them.
People
Professor Jill Warren taught me to love children unconditionally
Professor Patricia Bloem taught me the necessary need to know
all about childrens literature. I need to be a model and
inspiration for children to read. I need to be able to talk about
and recommend books to students.
Professor Amy Masko taught be the importance of urban
education and encouraged me to think critically instructional
methods. She strongly encouraged forming meaning
relationships with students, and this is where I have pulled some
of my educational philosophy.

Professor Terry Stockton encouraged me to move forward with


becoming an urban educator and inspired me to be a great one.
Professor Pam Page helped widen my perspective on childrens
literature and exposed me to a variety of books, genres, and
resources.
Professor Joan Borst taught me to be compassionate and
sensitive about people, and students, because you never know
what someone is going through or has gone through.
My parents have always supported my dream of becoming a
teacher, and pushed me to go further. I cannot thank them
enough for that.
The few past, high school, middle school, and elementary,
teachers who have encouraged, helped, and inspired me.

o All of these experiences have helped me to grow as a
person and teacher. Being exposed to different cultures
and community along the way has only fuelled my passion
for urban education.
