MMCI MMPI interpretation
Client: 28 year old female
The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality inventory and the Millon Clinical Multiaxal
Inventory-II were the tools used to assess the psychological status and functioning of this client.
The validity scales for the Millon Clinical Multiaxal Inventory II (MCMI-II), show that the
profile is largely valid. There was a slightly elevated Y score (75) which is the desirability index.
This vaguely high score could indicate that the client is presenting herself in an overly positive
manner, but it does not make the profile invalid. All other 3 validity indexes indicate that the
profile is valid. The personality disorders scales show a very high score in dependency. These
results could mean that she is usually very dependent on others and incapable of functioning on
her own, she is agreeable, a people pleaser, loyal and has a big fear or rejection. The client also
showed a high score in the compulsive scale, which, consistent with the scores on the
dependency scale, could mean that she has a conflict between hostility towards others and social
disapproval. People who score on a compulsive personality trait, have been intimidated by others
and forced to accept judgment and demands. They are highly demanding towards themselves,
perfectionists, and loyal (again, because of a fear of rejection). Lastly, as far of high scores on the
personality scales, the client showed elevated levels of negativistic/passive aggressive behavior.
This type of attitudes can be a combination of passive compliance, resentment and opposition.
Negativistic people are torn between pleasing others and pleasing themselves. They are unable to
resolve conflict and theres always an imbalance between obedience and opposition. The clinical
syndrome scales showed very elevated scores in anxiety, somatoform and dysthymia. People
with anxiety are usually apprehensive or phobic. They are tense, indecisive, at unease and most
of the time, unable to relax. The anxiety in this patient could be triggered by their fear of social
disapproval and inability to function on her own. Patients with high scores on the somatoform
scales, show their difficulties through somatic channels. For example, a period of anxiety can be
expressed through a bad headache or back pain. Lastly, high dysthymic scores represent people
that worry a lot and are preoccupied. In some cases, theres suicide ideation, bad performance on
life tasks and a negative look on the future.
As far as the MMPI, there are doubts about the validity because of an extremely elevated
F scale of 96. This elevated score could indicate that the respondent is answering questions
randomly, is confused, is exaggerating symptoms or is making herself look better. It suggests a
client that has psychological difficulties and is crying for help. Assuming the profile is valid and
the client did not respond randomly, there are several findings. The results showed high scores in
the psychopathic deviate, schizophrenia and hypomania scales and slightly above average scores
in the depression, masculinity-femininity and paranoia scales. The results from the Psychopathic
deviate scale suggest that the client participates in antisocial behavior, has issues with authority,
is hostile and manipulative. The schizophrenic T score was of 97, which usually means that the

client doesnt have schizophrenia but rather is likely faking the symptoms to make it seem like
they have the disorder, are very disturbed, and they are under distress and in a psychological
crisis. They mania scores show the possibility of agitated moods, concentration issues, and
pleasure seeking. All these high scores, assuming that valid, are consistent with each other and
with some results from the MCMI scale. There also may a presence of depression
(worthlessness, moderate depression, hopelessness and low self esteem).
The results from both of the scales are somewhat consistent among each other, but cant
be assured because of the possible invalidity of the MMPI scales. By deduction and after
examination of the profile results, I determine that this person has high levels of anxiety (created
by a lack of self esteem, the need to please others and social desirability) which is possibly
exhibited through fulfilling others demands and pleasing others rather than herself which creates
conflicting emotions within herself. Shes perhaps trying to portray herself as much more stable
than she really and is frustrated at everything. The results show that this patient suffers from
Generalized anxiety disorders, dependent personality disorder and possibly schizophrenia.
