A result of enlightenment and renaissance Says that human beings have a dual nature to them (good and bad both unlike realism) Fundamental theories behind both are different Its incumbent upon state to make rules and laws to allow the good side to come out If you want to know how the state behaves, look at the state within (their values, their structure) Every liberal state should have 4 core values 1. Juridical Equality (everyone equal in the eyes of law), 2. Democracy (will of people is represented in govt) 3. Liberty (freedom to say what you want etc.) 4. The free market They believe that there wont be any physical conflict or war if two states believe in these core values Liberalism is a very individualistic approach. They talk about individuals in all the 4 core values. Realism didnt do that and hinted on suppressing them. This point of view has extreme criticisms such as the flaws of the free market. Democracy gives us stability and peace according to these guys (but it also makes an illusion that the govt representation are your own when they really arent working in your interest). Liberalism also promotes globalization and says that two countries wont go to war with one another if they are economically interdependent. However a critic is that the money goes only to the multinational corporations and doesnt fulfill the needs of the majority.
