Abdul-Jabbar, Kareem. Despite the Trump Distraction, Black Lives Matter Wont Be
Sent to the Back of the Bus. Time 2015: 31. Print.
This source very briefly discusses what the Black Lives Matter movement is
really about and what some common misinterpretations of the movement are.
Along with that, this source points out that the next president needs to be able to
understand what Black Lives Matter is really about and needs to help them on
their way. A few areas of this source give good statistics taken through polls, such
as 58% of Hispanics and 73% of African Americans believe that racism is a big
problem. This source was ultimately very useful in first being able to really
understand what this movement is all about.
Altman, Alex. Black Lives Matter: A New Civil Rights Movement is Turning a Protest
Cry Into a Political Force. Time 21 December 2015: 118-125. Print.
This source begins by describing a Black Lives Matter protest during a Hillary
Clinton campaign where protesters prodded Clinton on her platform for equality.
This got some astonishing results, causing Clinton to immediately revamp her
platform on the issue. The source goes on to explain how Black Lives Matter truly
began by accident after the Trayvon Martin court ruling, how one woman posted a
Facebook status that was the beginning of an uprising. The source goes on to
explain the movements agenda, citing specific events that hold up and empower
the Black Lives Matter movement. Finally, the source signs off with the story of
the Minneapolis protests that lasted 18 days and was not given up on until the
group felt they had received justice.
Altman, Alex. Where Black Lives Matter Goes From Here. Time 31 August 2015: 2224. Print.
This source begins with the Hillary Clinton campaign protest and proceeds to
describe how the Black Lives Matter movement was established. It goes on to
explain very briefly how the Black Lives Matter movement is really trying to step
into the shoes of former activists and that Black Lives Matter encompasses more
than just racial equality, but other forms of equality as well. The group has a
strong beginning and plans to use social media in its favor for the duration of its
existence. The source ends with a short description with the movements success
at a Bernie Sanders campaign earlier this campaign season, and how Hillary
Clinton was not far behind on reforming her platform as well.

Brobst 2
This source begins at the beginning of the Black Lives Matter movement, telling
of its birth. Each subsequent story serves to describe the progression of the Black
Lives Matter movement. From its beginning through a Facebook post to the most
recent protests. This source also looks at the leadership of the Black Lives Matter
movement. This leadership is more so a person guiding the movement more than
plotting the steps carefully. The movement itself takes steps on its own, but still
looks to the leaders for reinforcement and guiding.
Ransby, Barbara. The Class Politics of Black Lives Matter. Dissent Fall 2015: 31-34.
Print.
This source begins by describing how the Black Lives Matter movement is built
on many black-led organizations and how this stands to make the movement a
strong entity. What makes this movement different from others is that it does not
merely focus on civil rights, but is also focuses on LGBTQ rights. This movement
also focuses on the demilitarization of the law enforcement system in the United
States. The Black Lives Matter movement has a long way to go, but with
presidential candidates such as Bernie Sanders, the movement is making much
progress.
