The Cold War

Mr. Coan -American History

Read pp. 670-678 in your textbook for information and any research you can find online
to help you out. Pay special attention to the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Your job is to create a magazine reflecting the life and culture of the Cold War Era. Each group
member is responsible for making their part reflect a magazine from the time period.
Requirements: Your magazine must include the following:
1. Cover page (picture, title of magazine, lead stories, and date)
2. Table of Contents (this has to be created last)
3. 4 Feature articles. Articles must be written as if they could be in a magazine during the
Cold War. Each group member is responsible for 2 articles. Articles may be about
any significant event during the Cold War. As you brainstorm consider the
slant/spin you wish to represent and what audience you wish to reach. (Think
Propaganda)
4. Articles should be typed in column format, like a newspaper or magazine. The page on
which your article is written should be in magazine format. That is, no large expanse of
blank paper. Every article must contain pictures or advertisements relating to your
topic.
5. Articles must be at least a single page, double spaced, size 12 font. The font you
choose must be a regular style font. No oversized or ridiculous font choices please.
6. You must have at least two sources of information for each article. Your Bibliography
must be cited either at the bottom of the article or on the back cover of the
magazine.
Expectations
1. Accuracy in reporting
2. Accounts that are rich in detail, factual evidence, and that are easy to read. The person
who reads your magazine should learn much about the era.
3. Each group member will fulfill his/her responsibility.
4. A neat, professional, and aesthetically pleasing magazine.
