PLOs for this course are based on those found in the BC Curriculum Guide. Students
will learn how to lay out Project Plans, outline a Cutting List, and calculate a Bill of
Materials. Students will explore the following aspects of woodworking and carpentry:

shop maintenance. The grading breakdown is as follows:
50% Projects
- Finished projects
- Accompanying Layout / Bill of Material / Assembly handouts
40% Safety
-

HEADSup! BC Safety Handouts

Successful orientations on each tool / machine
Safe demonstrations on various applications of each tool / machine
Sign-offs from teacher on independent use of machinery

10% Tests / Written Work

- Textbook work (ie measuring exercises, joinery identification, project
research, etc)
- In-class tests
The structure of assigned woodworking projects specifically aims to develop student
processes of planning and laying out a cutting list, as well as the calculation of a Bill of
Materials, before a project is attempted. Students are given budgets to work within, as
well as required to only work with tools they have successfully oriented on.
