Religion has caused most wars. We see in the likes of Syria, Palestine and
Israel, and many other countries that these wars are either fought over
Land or Religions; sometimes both. This is just a general fact of life. If we
look at it from more perspectives, we will see that most faiths have the same
policies or ideals, the idea of one God etc so we have no reason to fight. Plus
certain Catholic priests have been known to take advantage of their position
so that they can then take advantage of young children.
Since the 9/11 attacks revealed the motivating power of religion, calling for
examination of such questions as fervor and tolerance, interest in the
societal effects of religion has intensified, not only in the United States but
around the world.
At the moment USA is the most, by far, religious country within developed
countries. The nation maintains a level of tolerance for different religious,
but that acceptance is masked most of the time by the so called cultural war.

For example, Mitt Romney faced opposition to his Mormonism

when running for the presidency, and the recent controversy over
the mosque near the site of the Twin Towers reminds us that
Muslims are an especially unpopular religious group in the United
States. But our research suggests that without Americas religious
mixing-and-matching, these tensions would be even greater.
Campbell says.

Gender discrimination tends to travel with refugees and to be exacerbated

in displacement. Nationality laws that prohibit women from conferring
their citizenship to their children and spouses increases vulnerability,
ensuring even fewer rights and less opportunity for some refugees.
Berger's (1967, 1992) views on plausibility structures suggest that a belief
must receive a high level of support from group members if the belief is to
be maintained over time. An alternative view holds that beliefs that are
empirically unfalsifiable and that receive validation from sources external
to the group (e.g., from the mass media) can be maintained without high
levels of intra-group support. Using Itmgitudinal data, we found that
between the early 1970s and the early 1990s support for two unfalsifiable

beliefs (traditional beliefs about gender roles and hornosexual rights)

declined among all Christian groups, including active conservative
Protestants. In the early 1970s, support for these beliefs was relatively low
among active conservatives as well as among other Christians. Throughout
the time period studied, however, the active conservatives, compared to
other Christians, had greater exposure to extra-group sources of validation
for both beliefs. Thus, our findings do not support the view that
unfalsifiable beliefs that have extra-group support structures are
sustainable without high levels of intra-group support.

At the end of the Vietnamese war millions of people needed to flea southeast
Asia. 1.3 million vietnamese resettled around the globe. The US accepted
800,000 refugees to come into America. (Compared to the 10,000 refugees
were taking in today.)
Refusals and denials have taken their toll on main American values at
home, and on the image and effectiveness of the United States overseas.

However, the refusal of Jews before and during the Second World War,
coupled with the new challenges of American world leadership after the
war, sparked a greater attention to refugees. This, in turn, helped pry open
the gates of U.S. immigration once again.

America has accepted refugees since the 1790s.
