CHAPTER 10 ASSIGNMENT

Classroom management is very important. It is what sets the pace for a class. It shows the
views of the teachers and how they want to run their class. It isnt just an idea though, it takes the
action of doing this idea to improve the classroom. There are things that teachers have to do,
such as creating positive learning environment, planning on what goes on in the class, and rules
that the teachers will follow through on.
Mentor Teacher
To start off my findings on the different philosophies of classroom management I asked
my mentor teacher. My mentor teacher taught me that having a safe environment is what will
improve the education on the students. She not only makes the students feel safe but, she
includes the idea that students need to be involved. The best thing that I loved about my mentor
teacher was this concept. She focused on the idea of progressivism, and really incorporates it in
her teaching.
Positive Learning Community and Environment
This first step to classroom management is creating a positive environment. This doesnt
just mean educationally positive but, also includes every aspect of a classroom. This concept
allows students to feel safe and know that the teachers care for them.
Another example of this positive environment is how the class is set up. This is what sets
up success for the students. The more structured the class is, and it doesnt have to be in a strict
way, the more effective the class will become. The class could be set up with cooperative
learning. This means getting the students involved and helping the students intermingle with
other students. I actually feel that every teacher should do this, sometimes it isnt easy, but it is
worth it. I know that in my class I want the students involved in everything because this is their
time to learn and a part of that learning is learning how to feel safe.

Planning and Procedures

Apart of the set up in the classroom is the procedures that the teachers has. Procedures
are routines that the teacher sets up for the students to follow. It can be as easy as what they do at
the beginning of class as soon as the students walk in to class or how the teacher feels about
absence work. In my class I know that I will have a set format for all the classes I have. I will set
them up, explaining to the students will help the students know what I expect.
Involving parents
Involving parents are the best way to keep the students caring about their education. The
parents have the capability of helping the students. Having the parents involved with the
education of their students, it will help the teachers. They are able to assist the teachers and ease
the stress of responsibly the teachers have to deal with.
Rules and Consequences
All of this philosophy comes together to form the rules and consequences that the teacher will
have in their classroom. Every teacher is different and expect different things from the students.
This can be challenging sometimes for the students however, with the help of the teachers it is
possible. Many believe that elders should be respected and this is one of the rules some teachers
have. I feel that respect should not just be with the teachers, respect should also come from the
teachers. There will always be consequences in a classroom but, if you want all of students to
follow, respect has to be a concept taught in the classroom.
Philosophy is different in everyones eyes, and thats what makes class management
differ from class to class. I know that in my future classroom I will want to include all of these
concepts. I want to show respect to my students and when it comes to the students they are my
first priority in a class. Every teacher, like my mentor teacher, should consider this concept.
