Public Meeting #2

For my second public meeting I chose to go to the City Corps Council, Which
was held at Sandy City Hall on April 14th at 7. This meeting went on way longer than
it probably should have it went till 9, which is a long time to talk about earthquakes.
My dad is our block leader so all the stuff they talked about it wasnt new to me. I
understand the importance of such meetings, like we talked about where we were
supposed to go if there was an earthquake and also we talked about food storage,
which is not a new concept but so many people seem to have a very hard time with
it. Basically I learned that my family, which has 5 people in our house currently
should have enough water for all of us for 3 months. Enough food for 4 months, and
we should have working camping equipment. If we can get there safely we are
supposed to go to the local elementary, which is Oakdale.
This public meeting was very interesting to me because it went very
differently from what I expected, from watching Parks and Rec I thought that there
was going to be people standing up and opposing everything that was being said.
That people would have problems with a lot of the plans that were being put into
place but actually only two people stood up. One had a complaint about the
distance between his house and the elementary, which is a very odd argument to
bring up because there isnt really anything that anyone in that room could do

about that besides the man. Anyway it was cool to see that the stuff in Parks and
Rec is not how it really goes.
