Rationale as to why this summative evaluation is appropriate

This summative evaluation is a consolidation assignment for the lecture portion of this course. The lab
section of this course addresses the other course learning outcomes. This assignment explicitly addresses
the three theoretical course learning outcomes in addition to five essential employability skills. In this
manner, students are required to work together in groups to source and find new information regarding a
condition and therapy options from a knowledge and theoretical perspective. Students are required to
create a case, which is intended to be realistic and authentic to what they will likely encounter in the field.
This is consistent with the planning stage in a hospital and treatment facility, whereby new client cases are
assessed and treatment options are established. This is an application assignment that requires critical
thinking and clinical reasoning skills, which are developed and practiced through formative evaluations
throughout this course. Further, during week 13, students will have the opportunity to work through their
peers case studies to learn about various conditions. Students are required to assess one another on their
participation and to demonstrate knowledge and use of correct APA formatting to provide evidence of
academic integrity. Students are provided the option of providing their case studies in a variety of formats
and are only given the guidelines of having a one page or 5 minute limit to their submission.
