Each chapter is divided up into multiple

sections within the textbook. Each
section within that chapter is what we
focus on teaching the students. This
textbook does a great job or breaking
down each section and showing which
standards you will be covering within
that section. Within each section there
are multiple things that can help the
students, such as: the goals for that
lesson, vocabulary they will come across
within that lesson, examples that they
provide, a guided practice section, an
independent practice section, and then a
standardized practice section. We
usually start the lesson out by discussing
the vocabulary that they will come
across, then move onto the examples
that are provided for us, we will walk
through those step by step, which is easy
considering the textbook shows you what
they do step by step in different colors.
We will then move onto the guided
practice that we will complete together
on the board. Then lastly, the
independent practice will be their
homework for the day. This will be
something that they will have time to
complete in class giving me an
opportunity to walk around and help any
of the students who have questions.
Within each section there are problems
that they consider higher order thinking
problems for the students to try out.
They tend to be at the end of the
independent practice and at the end of
the standardized practice section. This
book tends to start the problems off easy
and then move on to more difficult
problems, allowing the students to ease
into the material that they just learned.
These higher order thinking problems are
prime examples for students to exercise
their critical thinking skills. As for
problem solving, math and everything we
will be doing in the classroom are perfect
examples for the students to exercise
their problem solving skills.
The teachers manual provides you with
a URL that provides you with many
options; one of those options being
differentiated lessons plans for sections
within each chapter. This will give
teachers opportunities to see the
differentiated lesson plans that might be
beneficial for them.
