TheInternetisanimportanttoolforlearningandmustbeusedresponsibly.Whileinternet
accessismonitoredandfilteredinaccordancewith

(CIPA)
,thegoalisnottorestrictaccess,buttoeducatestudentsaboutresponsibleand
appropriateuse.Ifastudentorstaffmemberisaccessinginappropriatematerialatschool,there
willbeconsequences.Students,parents,andstaffmustreadthefollowingguidelinesfor
AcceptableUseoftechnologyresourcesandsignthisagreement.Itisimportantthatweall
worktogethertomaintainthesafetyandprivacyofourstudentsandfollowtheguidelinesfor
lawfuluseofInternetcontent.
Weencourageteachers,students,staff,andotherschoolcommunitymemberstouseavariety
ofage/gradelevelappropriatetechnologyandonlinetoolsasawaytoconnectwithothers,
shareeducationalresources,createandcurateeducationalcontent,andenhancethe
classroomexperience.Whilesocialnetworking,email,andWeb2.0toolsareengagingand
valuable,thereareincreasedpersonalresponsibilitieswhenusingthesetoolstoensuresafety,
privacy,andlawfulness.

enactedtoprotectminors.

protectstheprivacyofstudenteducationrecords.ThedistrictfollowsallFERPA
guidelineswithrespecttostudentrecords.
ChildrensOnlinePrivacyProtectionAct(COPPA)
isaFederallawthat
imposes
certainrequirementsonoperatorsofwebsitesoronlineservicesdirectedtochildren
under13yearsofage,andonoperatorsofotherwebsitesoronlineservicesthathave
actualknowledgethattheyarecollectingpersonalinformationonlinefromachildunder
13yearsofage.

1. Beawarethatoncesomethingispostedtotheinternet,itispermanent.Always
rememberthatinformationonlineisavailabletopeopleyoudonotknow.
2. Studentswillnotpostpersonalinformationaboutthemselvesorotherpeople.(This
includeslastnames,addressesandphonenumbers).
3. Studentswillnottomeetwithanyonetheyhavemetonlinewithouttheirparents
approvalandparticipation.
4. Studentswillinformteachersorotherschoolemployeeaboutinappropriatemessages

FacultyUseofSocialMedia
Theschooldistrictrespectstherightsoffacultyandstaffmemberstousesocialmediaand
networkingsitesbutitisimportantthatthisusedoesnotdamagethedistrictsreputationor
harmotheremployeesorstudentsandtheirfamilies.Employeesshouldexercisecareinsetting
appropriateboundariesbetweentheirpersonalandpubliconlinebehavior.Rememberanything
youpostmaybecomepublicevendeletedmaterial.Itisrecommendedthatemployeesnot
includecurrentstudentsasfriends,followers,oranyothersimilarterminologyusedby
varioussites.Employeesshouldalwaysusegoodjudgementaboutanyinformationposted
online.AllbehavioronlineshouldbeconsistentwiththebehavioroutlinedintheEmployee
Handbookincludingthefollowing:

StudentUseofSocialMedia
Mostimportantly,studentsareencouragedtoalwaysexercisetheutmostcautionwhen
participatinginanyformofsocialmediabothwithintheschoolenvironmentandoutside.
Studentswhoparticipateinonlineinteractionsmustrememberthattheirpostsreflectonthe
entireschoolcommunityand,assuch,aresubjecttothesamebehavioralstandardssetforthin
theStudentHandbook.InadditiontotheregulationsfoundintheStudentHandbook,students

PersonalDevices(BYOD)
Studentsareallowedtobringtheirowndevicetoschool,howevertheuseofpersonaldevices
bystudentsisoptional,andstudentsnotparticipatinginBYODwillnotbepenalizedand
alternatemodesofparticipationwillbeavailable.
AnimportantconsiderationforBYODistheeducationaboutappropriateonlinebehavior.
Teacherswillreviewcybersafetyruleswithstudentsthroughouttheschoolyearandwillremind
themaboutsafeonlinebehavior.Inadditiontothefollowingguidelines,studentsareexpected
tocomplywithallschooldistrictpolicieswhileusingpersonaldevices.Theuseoftechnologyis
aprivilege,andwhenabused,theprivilegeswillbetakenaway.

Violationsofthispolicymayhavedisciplinaryrepercussions,including:
Suspensionofvolunteerprivileges.
Removalfrompositionsofleadershipwithintheschool.
Removalofstudentfromtheschool.
Lossoftechnologyuseandprivileges.
AdditionalconsequencesdeterminedbyAdministration.
Intentionalvandalismortheftwillbereportedtolawenforcement.
