Mass and Weight

Formula: Weight (Newtons [N]) = Mass (Kilograms [kg]) x Gravity (meters/seconds
squared [m/s2])
Gravity on earth 9.8 m/s2
1 lb (pound) 4.45 N (Newton)
1 kg (Kilogram) 2.2 lbs (pounds)
1) Write your weight in Kilograms (x lbs/2.2). This should be your mass.

2) Plug your mass into the formula for weight (w=mg) to find out how many
Newtons you weigh.

3) Write your weight as Newtons (x lbs * 4.45). If you are correct, it should be
approximately the same as in question 2.

4) If an object has a mass of 90.91 kg and a weight of 200 lbs on Earth, what is the
weight of the same object on the Moon with a gravitational pull that is 0.165 of
Earths gravitational pull? (Newtons and pounds)

5) What is the mass of that same object in question 4 on the moon?

6) What is your Weight (in Newtons and pounds) and Mass on the moon? Label each
in the proper units.
