B. Lesson Proper

A continuous collar is cut as an extension of the front bodice and the designer many
opportunities to vary her collar effects.
There is a variety of ways in which the collar is made. Be sure that the neck is
accurately measured and that the center back of the collar is right-angled at the both
corners. The width and shape of the collar itself is up to you. Its effectively depends on
corrects proportioning and the way it hugs in the nape and the smooth roll glides softly
down the center front.
When the collar is interpreted freely, it leads to invention through the use of excess
both above the shoulder and within the neck area. The outside edge of the collar can be
flat or curled one. To produce the curl along the free edge, lengthen the outside edge of the
collar.

Steps in drafting a continuous collar.

1. Trace front bodice sloper.

2. Add inch overlap at the center front.
3. Draw a folding line AB.
4. BC = inch.
5. Draw a diagonal line AC and extend line. AC =
6. CD = 3 inches
7. Using the right angle, draw a line at D.
8. DE = 2 inches more or less.
9. FG = 2 more or less.
10. Connect E to G, G to A with a hip curve.
11. Cut pattern.
Note: Point G can be made higher or lower depending on the style of the free edge of
the collar.
