1. In case (a), bar is supported by 2 cables and ball-and-socket joint. In case (b), ball-and-socket
joint is replaced by the universal joint as shown in the figure. Determine the cable tensions, the
magnitude of the force and moment reaction at point O as a function of x for both of the cases.
If the system is statically indeterminate in one of the cases, explain the reason.

2. Determine the force in member FE by using both method of joints and method of sections.
Compare the results found.

3. A pair of 80N forces is applied to the handles of the small eyelet squeezer. The block at A slides
with negligible friction in a slot machined in the lower part of the tool. Neglect the small force
of the light return spring AE and determine the compressive force P applied to the eyelet.

4. Determine the force in member CK.

5. Calculate the reaction forces at A and the rollers. Clearly indicate the assumption(s) to be able
to solve the question.
