Mission
Mission
Statement
Statement:
Precious Moments Preschools mission
is to provide infants, children, youth
and their families a quality program
that is safe, nurturing and an enriching
environment through caring, loving
and professional staff and family
involvement. An atmosphere where
children are encouraged to expand
their natural sense of wonder, where
kindness
and
friendships
are
emphasized. We strive to create a
developmentally appropriate learning
environment where students grow
socially, spiritually, and cognitively.

We have a goal oriented center. We make sure
that children feel it is THEIR classroom. Their
classroom will be an enriching educational and
recreational
environment,
enhancing
the
development in cognitive expansion, self and
social awareness, physical development, creative
expression and recreational activities. We believe
children learn and master new skills through play
experiences. These experiences will be hands-on
participatory activities and choice. There will be
lots of space and time to discover. We provide the
children and youth with supportive and
encouraging staff, striving to assist children in
developing and
maintaining a positive self-image and encourage
children to take responsibility for themselves and
their actions while learning social skills, such as
problem solving and cooperation with others. We
will celebrate the uniqueness of each child,. We
believe that preschool should be a place where
children learn about themselves and others. We
encourage parents to be involved and participate
in classroom celebrations, field trips and other
programs. We slowly become one big family.

Curriculum:

We offer a child-centered and developmentally

appropriate program for two- through five- year-old
children. We implement the Montessori curriculum,
where everything is child-centered and child-sized.
All areas of child development are met
social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language.
Play allows children to learn about the world and
themselves. As children play, they learn new skills,
develop coping mechanisms, test new ideas, and
master their bodies. As children make choices about
where to play in the classroom, they are learning a
variety of skills. For example, building with blocks
promotes material exploration, as well as spatial
planning, symbolic representation, dramatic play,
and social interactions. In the area of art, teachers
emphasize the process rather than the finished
product. As children use art materials, they are
planning and carrying out a task and also using
symbols to represent their ideas. Our play-based
curriculum offers children many opportunities for
positive interactions with other children and adults.
We treat each child with respect and reinforce their
value as an individual

Guiding Childrens
Guiding
Behavior:

Childrens
Behavior

The schools behavior policy encourages children to

develop social skills that reflect many of Precious
Moments values, including self-control, respect for
others, and a positive self-esteem. Teachers model
appropriate behavior and guide positive interactions
among children and adults. All age-appropriate and
play-based curriculum ensures that activities are
child centered and promote positive social
interactions. We communicate and enforce clear
boundaries and expectations for behavior, and use
nonverbal cues and/or redirect a childs behavior to
foster success. Children learn to make suitable
choices and develop techniques for regaining selfcontrol when they feel frustrated. Instructive and
individually appropriate consequences help to
strengthen the childs self-control and self-esteem.
We give children lots of feedback and different ideas.
If we see something that can be done at home we
implement strong suggestions. We do not believe in
rewards and we respect every child. We implement
Conflict
resolution and the 6 steps to problem
solving.

Partnerships
Partnerships with
with Families:
Families
When a child experiences a particularly
challenging
time,
the
school
encourages parents and teachers to
work together and develop appropriate
strategies. Communication is strongly
encouraged with families. If you have
any special talents, skills, networks we
would love to hear and for you to share
with us. Families are a big part of how
our children encounter their Precious
Moments, we need you. Be their
teacher at home, their leader and their
diary. The effectiveness communication
with a childs families have on the
children is huge.
