Specific Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to perform math
facts that may be seen on future test. This will give them extra practice with story
problems. And also help them remember what CUBES means to help them on
future test and to solve story problems easier.
Concomitant Objective: Students will be physically active during this task and help
keep them going throughout the day.

Warm Up: Not needed, they will be moving from station
to station which will get their blood moving and body
warm. The task are also not going to be too strenuous.

Set Induction:
- How many of you are bored of doing story
problem worksheets?
- How many of you would rather be in gym class?
Learnable Piece:
- Today we are going to be practicing our story
problems and reviewing for our test by moving
around the classroom and being active.
- While also keeping in mind what we have been
learning about how to solve word problems.
- CUBES
- C Circle the Numbers
- U Underline the Question
- B Box the key words
- E Evaluate and Draw
- S Solve and Check
- By the end of the lesson I want you to be able
to tell me what CUBES stands for.
Presentation of New Material/Directions:
- We are going to number off by 6s
- Each group will start at a designated station
around the classroom and you will choose a
recorder.
- While at your station you will read the story
problem and go through the proper steps

- Rotate clockwise around the classroom.
Activity:
- Six different stations throughout the classroom.
1. Josh had 16 marbles in his collection. He lost 7 marbles.
How many marbles does he have now?
**Jumping jacks** Answer: 9
2. Megan has 9 seashells. Sarah has 7. If they combine their
seashells, how many will they have?
**High knees** Answer: 16
3. A bee has 6 legs. How many legs do two bees have?
**Sit-ups** Answer: 12
4. Ellen has five more apples than Marvin. If Marvin has four
apples. How many does Ellen have?
**Squats** Answer: 9
5. 12 marbles were taken from the basket. There were 24
marbles in the basket to start. How many marbles are in the
basket now?
**Lunges** Answer: 12
6. There are four kids in each group. If we have three groups.
How many total kids are there?
**Calf raisers** Answer: 12
Possible Modifications:
- If theyre struggling to answer the problems, I will
walk around and help them out. Or read them
aloud as a class and we can all do the task
together.
